Attention Employers and Health Care Providers: New Board Initiatives

As part of the Board’s system modernization, two new initiatives are being developed to streamline the delivery of care to injured workers:

A web-based portal is being created for prior authorization requests for medical treatment and care. The portal will enable health care providers to submit prior authorization requests online. Parties of Interest in a case will receive notifications via the portal, eliminating paper mailings and speeding up the approval process.

A comprehensive durable medical equipment fee schedule is being developed. The schedule includes a price for nearly every piece of durable medical equipment that an injured worker may need.  Prior authorization requests for durable medical equipment will also be handled electronically through a web-based portal, similar to the process for prior authorization requests for medical care.

The Board anticipates that using technology to modernize these currently paper-based processes will help to expedite the delivery of medical care and equipment to injured workers.

Regulations about these new processes will be published soon in the State Register and on the Board’s website. A Subject Number will be issued when they are published.
