Open letter to the Kitsap healthcare community:

We need to work together to improve COVID-19 testing

Kitsap Public Health Officer Dr. Gib Morrow today sent an open letter to the local healthcare community, asking for their help making sure everyone who needs COVID-19 testing gets tested, a critical component in beating the virus. The sooner positive cases are identified, the sooner people can isolate so they don't infect others.

Kitsap Public Health schools update

Kitsap Public Health refreshed its COVID-19 School Information Page on Thursday with updated data relevant to school decision-making. One key indicator of COVID-19 activity, the rate of new cases per 100,000 population, increased from 39 to 61 in the most recent update. Kitsap remained in the “moderate” risk range, based on criteria established by the Washington State Department of Health.

Department of Health updates COVID case reports

The Washington State Department of Health reported a total of 91,918 confirmed cases as of October 7. There have been 2,183 COVID-19 deaths in Washington.

The weekly statewide COVID-19 outbreak report is also updated and summarizes outbreaks in health care, non-health care, and long-term care settings. Read the full report here.

As of October 5, a total of 7,520 COVID-19 cases (8% of total cases) and 1,184 deaths (55% of total deaths) have been identified as associated with a long-term care facility (i.e., nursing home, assisted living facility or adult family home). Read the full report here.
