Since 2 December, East Hampshire has been in Tier 2 – High Alert.
Eligible businesses required by law to close (pubs and bars that cannot operate as restaurants) can now apply for a Local Restrictions Support Grant (Tier 2) for closed businesses.
‘Wet-led pubs’, pubs that predominantly serve alcohol rather than food, can also apply for a Christmas Support Payment of £1,000. This scheme is expected to close at the end of January, so eligible businesses should apply now.
Councillor Richard Millard, Leader of East Hampshire District Council, said:
“East Hampshire being in Tier 2 has meant that shoppers have been able to return to the high street and support local businesses, but pubs and bars that can’t operate as restaurants have still had to close.
“Pubs that mainly get their income from selling alcohol have been particularly hit by the lack of traditional Christmas office parties and family get-togethers, so the Christmas Support Payment will go some way to softening that blow.
“I know this is a difficult time for many businesses in the district, but we are doing everything we can to support businesses and get these grants out to eligible businesses as quickly as possible.”
