First phase of COVID-19 vaccination continues; information on additional phases released
The first phase of COVID-19 vaccination — Phase 1a — continues in Washington state and Kitsap County (scroll down for details).
The state Department of Health announced guidance on Jan. 6 for Phase 1b of vaccination, which could begin in late January.
The state will determine when healthcare providers should begin vaccinating people eligible under Phase 1b and future phases. There is currently no system to pre-register or be added to a waiting list to receive vaccination under Phase 1b. The state will launch new “Phase Finder” tool on Jan. 18 to help residents identify which phase of vaccination they may be eligible for and sign up for notifications.
COVID-19 vaccine will be administered by healthcare providers throughout our community. Please check with your healthcare provider learn if they plan administer COVID-19 vaccine.

KEY COVID-19 VACCINATION UPDATES
-
Kitsap Public Health staff provided a detailed briefing on vaccine rollout to the Kitsap Public Health Board on Jan. 5. View a recording and slides from the presentation.
-
Healthcare providers in our community continue to vaccinate people eligible under Phase 1a, including healthcare workers and medical first responders in settings with a high risk of COVID-19 exposure. Kitsap Public Health is working to link people eligible for vaccination under Phase 1a with providers administering vaccine.
-
Kitsap County healthcare providers will have received approximately 7,850 doses of COVID-19 vaccine to date by the end of this week. We estimate there are at least 9,500 individuals in Kitsap County who qualify for vaccination under Phase 1a. Each person will need two doses of vaccine.
-
We are currently unable to provide updates on the number of Kitsap residents who have received their first dose of vaccine, due to issues with the state reporting system. We are committed to providing accurate and timely COVID-19 vaccine information to our community and we will resume reporting these metrics as soon as verified data becomes available on a consistent basis.
- As of Jan. 2, 12 healthcare providers in Kitsap County had enrolled with the state to receive vaccine. Five providers had begun to receive and administer vaccine to priority groups. Another 27 providers were pending approval or had begun the application process. Kitsap Public Health is encouraging all healthcare providers to enroll.
- The CDC has partnered with CVS and Walgreens to provide onsite COVID-19 vaccinations to staff and residents of long-term care facilities. 79 facilities in Kitsap have been approved for this program.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
While the rollout of COVID-19 vaccine has begun in our community, it will take months for vaccination to become available to the majority of Kitsap County residents. You can help our community by:
-
Continuing to fight the spread of COVID-19 by practicing the "Three Ws": wearing a mask, washing your hands, and watching your distance (staying at least 6 feet apart from people outside of your household).
- Sharing accurate information about the COVID-19 vaccine and COVID-19 pandemic.
- Learning about volunteer opportunities to support local COVID-19 response.
Thank you for doing your part to keep our community healthy!
