View today's Kitsap Public Health Board meeting
Kitsap Public Health District leadership provided an update on COVID-19 response and vaccine rollout Tuesday to the Kitsap Public Health Board. A recording of the meeting is available here.
A few highlights from the presentation included:
- Health Officer Dr. Gib Morrow noted that COVID-19 case rates have been declining in our county in recent weeks, in line with state and national trends. But he cautioned that the community cannot let its guard down. “We are still nowhere near a safe level,” Dr. Morrow said.
- Testing for COVID-19 has decreased in our county overall. Dr. Morrow urged Kitsap residents to get tested if they experience any COVID-19 symptoms or have had close contact someone who tested positive.
- As of Jan. 25, more than 3,000 Kitsap residents had received both doses of COVID-19 vaccine and nearly 20,000 had received their first dose. Twenty healthcare organizations in Kitsap have received vaccine to date. However, vaccine providers are receiving less vaccine than they have requested from the state. Data is posted on the Health District’s vaccine page.
- Health District leadership and Health Board members discussed concerns around the state’s phased Roadmap to Recovery plan. Health District Administrator Keith Grellner noted that the state’s decision to move regions from Phase 1 to Phase 2 of the plan is based on COVID-19 case trends, rather than the actual level of disease activity. COVID-19 rates are lower in Kitsap than in many of the counties that are being moved to Phase 2.
Kitsap Transit kicks off outreach campaign
Kitsap Transit issued a rider alert today on a new federal law mandating mask-wearing on public transportation. Under the new law, riders must wear masks that cover the nose and mouth.
While the COVID-19 pandemic continues to plague our lives, we all have roles to play in slowing the spread of this virus and the toll it takes on our community. Kitsap Transit kicked off a new ad campaign featuring videos showing how to ride public transit safely during the pandemic.
 The short videos were created by a team overseen by Olalla-based North Woods Productions and feature local actors from community theaters who have been unable to stage in-person performances during COVID-19. Kitsap Transit partnered with the Bremerton Community Theatre for costumes and props. Bremerton WestSound Symphony provided a violinist to perform in one of the ads.
