The IASS will continue to work remotely over the coming weeks offering free and confidential information, advice and support on SEN/disability matters for children and young people (0-25) and their parents/carers. Over £42 Million support extended for children with SEND
The Government has announced that it will re-award current contracts and grants which enable schools, colleges, families and local authorities, to support thousands of children with SEND.
Projects sharing the £42 million will continue to focus on:
Targeted support monitoring, support and intervention to improve local authorities and partners’ delivery of statutory SEND services
Direct support to schools and colleges to help them work effectively with pupils with SEND
Participation of parents and young people: to ensure their effective involvement in designing SEND policies and services, including in response to the pandemic, and to ensure that they are able to access high quality and impartial information, advice and support
Quality of family life: to help low-income families with seriously ill or disabled children with the cost of equipment, goods or services

New education recovery package for children and young people
The government has today announced further elements of the recovery support package so children and young people can catch up on missed learning and development due to the pandemic.

Covid-19 SEND update
Whilst we anticipate more information for the re-opening of schools on the 8th March, here is a reminder of the Government guidelines which remain in place until then.
- Children and young people with an EHC plan should be allowed to continue attending their education setting if their parent wants them to (or, for post-16 provision, if the young person wants to attend).
- Where, for any reason, it is not possible for a child or young person with SEND –
including both those with an EHC plan and those who are supported through SEN
Support – to attend their education setting during this period, they should receive
remote education and support.
- There is no change to the legal duty for schools and colleges to use their best endeavours in meeting the special educational needs of pupils/students whether they are accessing a place or are at home.

Support for home learning
Wolverhampton Education Psychology Service continues to offer a free consultation service to parents/carers living in Wolverhampton and also to parents/carers of children or young people in the care of Wolverhampton Local Authority.
Educational Psychology Wolverhampton
Wolverhampton Outreach Service is now offering support directly to parents. This may include help for your child to engage in home learning, access the curriculum or develop on-task behaviours whilst learning at home.

Home schooling top tips from Contact’s Listening Ear team
Parents and carers have been calling Contact's Listening Ear team looking for practical advice and strategies to help with home schooling.
Contact has put together some handy home schooling top tips, including practical ideas to establish a routine that works for your family and how to keep home schooling fun.
Whatever parents want to talk about - big or small, practical or emotional, Contact’s Listening Ear service can help. And, thanks to further funding it can be there for even more parents when they need someone to talk to. Appointments are free, confidential and over the phone with one of our family support advisers. Simply choose a time that works for you and book your appointment.

#YES Appreciation Day
Friday 5 March is a chance for young people to show their appreciation to anybody they wish for anything they may have done in the pandemic – this could be their teacher, a family member, a keyworker or their friend.
Alternatively, schools and organisations are also encouraged to show their appreciation to a young person who has gone the extra mile during the pandemic.
Taking part is easy – Wolverhampton's Coproduction and Engagement Team want everybody to get creative by showing their appreciation in any way they want. This could be through video, photos, drawings, paintings or through any other creative means.
They would love it you could encourage your pupils and staff – those at home and those still attending school – to take part, show their appreciation and build up good morale in what is an extremely tough time
As well as increasing morale among pupils and those who have done great things during the pandemic so far, they want to feature as much creative work as possible on HeadStart Wolverhampton’s social media pages - @HeadStartFM on Facebook and Twitter - on #YES Appreciation Day itself - all you have to do is send any submissions to joe.perry@wolverhampton.gov.uk by Friday 26 February.
You can also get involved on the day by sharing appreciation posts on social media using the hashtag #YESAppreciationDay
