Letter from the Mayor

Dear Washingtonians,

If you are not yet vaccinated, please ensure that you pre-register for a COVID-19 vaccination appointment. Even if you are not yet eligible for the vaccine, please pre-register. You can pre-register by going to vaccinate.dc.gov (any day, any time) or by calling 1-855-363-0333 (Monday-Friday, 8am-7pm and Saturday & Sunday, 8am-4pm).

If you are already vaccinated or already pre-registered, please take time right now to reach out to friends, family, and neighbors to make sure they know how to pre-register. This is as simple as sending a text that says: Hello! Did you pre-register for a COVID-19 vaccination appointment, yet? If not, go to vaccinate.dc.gov or call 1-855-363-0333 to pre-register.

Of course, this time of year brings with it many celebrations and traditions that we are eager to get back to. Whether you celebrate Passover, Holi, Easter, or later this month, Ramadan, I urge you to stay safe. This is the second year in a row that we celebrate these holidays during a pandemic. This year, however, there is more reason to have hope because we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. So, again, I urge you not to let down your guard. Just as I said last year: while some traditions may be on hold, our faith is not. And we are so close to getting through this. Please do not put your own health, or the health of your family and community, at risk:

  • Continue to wear a mask, social distance, and practice good hygiene
  • Choose your activities wisely and remember that outdoors is better than indoors
  • And, of course, as soon as you have the opportunity to: get vaccinated

Thank you and stay safe, DC.

Sincerely,

Muriel Bowser

DC Launches New 24/7 Resource for Individuals with Possible HIV Exposure

PEP Hotline

This week, Mayor Bowser and DC Health launched the District's Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) Hotline, a new resource for people who may have been exposed to HIV. PEP is emergency medication taken to prevent HIV and has to be started within 72 hours of a possible exposure. The DC PEP Hotline is open 24 hours a day/7 days a week, and can be reached by calling (202) 299-3737.

When an individual calls the DC PEP Hotline, they will speak with an expert and caring medical provider. They will then be able to pick up their initial PEP medications from select Walgreen’s pharmacies in DC.
