I am thrilled to wish our beautiful city of North Las Vegas a very happy 75th birthday!!!
According to our unofficial city historian, Jeff Alpert, petitions for incorporation were filed in district court on May 1, 1946 and a court decree for incorporation was issued at 11:38 a.m. However, a technical error delayed the signing of Judge George Marshall until May 3.
At the time of our incorporation, North Las Vegas covered 2.31 square miles and had a population of 2,875. Today, North Las Vegas is comprised of 102.24 square miles and has a population of roughly 265,000 and growing!
We will be celebrating this milestone celebration all through the month of May with a social media campaign that will highlight the city through the years and include fun facts and trivia! Be sure to follow all of our social media pages to learn more, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. We are also marking the occasion during our City Council meeting next Wednesday, May 5!

Pop-up COVID-19 vaccination clinic Saturday, May 1 at Martin Luther King, Jr. Senior Center
The City of North Las Vegas is offering free COVID-19 vaccinations this Saturday, along with Walmart gift cards and raffle tickets for a chance to see Grupo Labertino and La Maquinaria Norteña in concert.
Vaccines will be available this Saturday, May 1, at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Senior Center, 2420 N. Martin Luther King Blvd., Building B. Walmart gift cards will be handed out to those who receive the vaccine during the event. Participants will also receive raffle tickets for a chance to win a table and admission for six people to see Grupo Labertino and La Maquinaria Norteña live in concert May 15 at Silver Nugget Casino, an $800 value.

This program is part of the City of North Las Vegas’ broader efforts to reach undervaccinated and vulnerable communities and improve access to the vaccine. Other ongoing efforts and events include:
- Pop-up registration sites at neighborhood grocery stores and other businesses,
- Pop-up vaccination sites in under-vaccinated areas,
- In-home vaccinations for the homebound,
- Partnership with Lyft to give residents in need free rides to vaccination appointments,
- Bilingual phone calls to residents in the targeted ZIP codes,
- Bilingual emails to residents in the targeted ZIP codes,
- Public service announcements in English and Spanish on community radio stations and in grocery stores in under-vaccinated areas,
- Working with federal and state delegation, including Congressman Steven Horsford, to reach constituents and secure additional doses of vaccine for Nevada.
To date, the City of North Las Vegas has administered over 75,000 shots as part of its vaccination efforts, including at targeted pop-up clinics for first and second doses at Rose Gardens Senior Apartments, Owens Senior Apartments, MLK Senior Center, EMS Training Center of Southern Nevada and Neighborhood Recreation Center.

More, more more! Transit may be back and better than ever
As a result of the pandemic, the RTC has received federal stimulus funding to restore and enhance essential public transit service. The agency's transit planning team has been hard at work outlining the proposed changes, which includes expanding the current service area, extending routes, increasing bus frequency, and introducing new routes and a new on-demand transit service.
But before making any changes, they need to hear from you! Today is the first day of a 45-day public comment period where the community is invited to share feedback via a brief survey or in person at one of the public meetings through May 31. Survey respondents, in person or online, can receive a 24-hour transit pass, or enter for a chance to win a gift card in a weekly drawing.
The changes will provide more equitable access to the community through safe and reliable service to 185,000 valley residents who currently do not have access to transit, including more than 32,000 individuals who are living near or at the poverty level. These changes will also connect residents to 23,000 employment opportunities.
The proposed transit service changes were determined though On Board, the RTC's long-term mobility plan for our region. Through extensive community input, On Board helped identify how enhancements to the current bus system can improve future mobility and accessibility for our residents and visitors.

Movie Madness: Halfway to Halloween
Join us for our "Halfway to Halloween" movie event with a showing of Disney's "Maleficent: Mistress of Evil," featuring tricks, treats and activities starting at 6 p.m.!
