Letter from the Mayor

Dear Washingtonians,

Tomorrow we kick off our citywide grassroots effort to get all Washingtonians 16 and older vaccinated.

If you have a few hours available tomorrow at 9AM, 11AM, or 1PM, please join a canvassing team. We will go door to door and talk to neighbors about how easy it is to get vaccinated. Here's some of the information we'll be sharing with neighbors:

  • Walk-up sites open on Saturday, May 1, and all residents 18 and older will be able to walk up, no appointment needed to get their free COVID-19 vaccine.
  • Residents can find available vaccines, including at walk-up sites, pharmacies, clinics, and health care providers at vaccines.gov.
  • 16- and 17-year-olds can get vaccinated through Children's National.
  • The vaccines are FREE, extremely effective, and the best way to crush the virus and get back to a better normal.

If you want to help us get the word out, come to a meet-up site at 9AM, 11AM, and/or 1PM. If you register ahead of time, you will get a shirt and other DC COVID-19 Community Corps swag.

Behind on rent or utility bills? The District has money to help you.

STAY DC

Earlier this month, Mayor Bowser launched a program to provide financial assistance to DC residents struggling to make rent and utility payments due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Through the Stronger Together by Assisting You (STAY DC) program, renters and housing providers can apply for funding to cover past and future rental payments in addition to utilities like water, gas, and electricity.

Renters and housing providers are urged to submit applications for rental and utility assistance at stay.dc.gov. Applicants can also call the STAY DC Call Center at 833-4-STAYDC for support throughout their application process, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Ticket Amnesty Program

Ticket Amnesty

Earlier this month, Mayor Bowser announced a four-month amnesty program giving drivers the opportunity to pay outstanding tickets for parking, photo enforcement (including speed, red-light, and stop sign), and minor moving violations. Drivers eligible for the amnesty program are still obligated to pay the original ticket amount; however, any penalties will be waived.

The amnesty program will run from June 1, 2021 to September 30, 2021, and includes tickets issued before September 30, 2021.

This program is launching as the District plans to restart on June 1 several government functions — such as all parking enforcement, towing of illegally parked vehicles, and requirements to renew vehicle registrations and inspections — that had been suspended during the COVID-19 public health emergency.
