EDC Planning Priorities

Matrix

The Planning and Building Department impacts so many critical areas of our community, and our demands on their time is not equal to their resources.  Therefore, it was essential that the Board provide direction on what projects should take priority in the fiscal year ahead. So much of their work is consumed with state mandates, and all the projects in purple represent that.

The projects in green are our Tier 1 priorities and they include Community Design Standards as well as Design Standards for Rural Centers.  I am a big believer that design is paramount to preserving and protecting community character when worked in conjunction with our General Plan.  I look forward to working with our individual communities to identify "what's us" in terms of the look, feel and desired defining features of the places we call home.  Once we embed those physical aspects in a set of Design Standards, any project in that area must conform to those guidelines.

Of particular note to District 3, an update of the Ranch Marketing Ordinance as well as a potential Agricultural Camping Ordinance was also added to the list of new projects for consideration.

Stay tuned on those...

EDC Youth Commission

YC

On May 4th, it was my pleasure to welcome the EDC Youth Commission to the Board of Supervisors where they presented their work for the year.

And this last year was brutal!  It was hard on all of us, but can you imagine how hard it was on the young people in our communities?  It would have been all too easy to turn inward. These amazing kids turned outward, focusing on the hurt around them and finding creative ways to meet the needs of their classmates.  Even more incredible, they came together as a Commission, developed and implemented a project without ever meeting in person!

Supported by the incomparable Amy Pooley, the 2020/2021 Youth Commission has my respect and gratitude for reaching outside of themselves to connect and support their fellow students, helping them to be well in the midst of this dark year.

I look forward to being their BOS liaison in the years ahead!

Camino Clean-Up Day

CCAC1CCAC2c3

The Camino Community Action Committee is a dedicated and hard-working group!

Many thanks to all the volunteers who showed up to help residents clean up on April 24th! It was especially great to have the El Dorado County Sheriff's Explorer program provide assistance as well as Waste Connections who are always generous in their support.

I enjoyed being with you all, and am extremely grateful for the good work you do in our community!

56 Acres in Tahoe

LT1

Spent a great day exploring the exciting opportunities of the jointly-owned 56 Acres in South Lake Tahoe.  Many thanks to SLT City Manager Joe Irvin, Mayor Pro Tem Devin Middlebrook, and Battalion Chief Drennan for the tour by land and "sea".  It was incredibly helpful to walk the land, tour the existing buildings and see the shoreline potential from the water.

This project will be a game-changer for residents and visitors alike. Looking forward to seeing how we can best move forward together with the City of South Lake Tahoe to maximize the potential opportunities of these 56 Acres.
