Tips for Online Collaboration
Network Weaver is an online resource devoted to the concept of network weaving to collaborate to get work done. A recent online newsletter included an article titled “6 Tips for Making Online Collaboration More Productive and Engaging.” Those tips included:
- Assemble a team and bring them together early in the planning process
- Allocate more time for organizing online meetings
- Create a valuable experience for everyone
- Practice makes better — this includes doing a practice or test run before the meeting, which includes what they call a “run of show” document that outlines what will happen during the meeting
- Invite people to bring their whole selves into the room — this includes providing opportunities for the participants to engage and be part of the event
- Create the space for learning on multiple levels

Completing Contracts with Landowners
Three Board Conservationists in southern MN, Jill Sacket-Eberhardt, Jeremy Maul, and Jenny Mocol-Johnson, partnered with BWSR Grant Compliance Specialist Julie Krebs to offer a virtual training, Completing Contracts with Landowners to our LGU partners. The training was offered on three different dates and times during the month of April.
“Contract training is a great opportunity for LGUs to brush up on their skills,” Mocol-Johnson said. “The intent of the training was to walk through the process from start to finish, beginning with project identification and ending with procedures for payment. One of the most common responses I heard from the training was, ‘wow, details matter,’ and they really do! We wanted to make sure we held a training where everyone was comfortable to ask questions and learn. While not everyone enjoys the contracting piece, it’s incredibly important. That was one of the biggest takeaways we wanted everyone to remember.”
Evaluations indicate that participants valued the training and left with ideas of how to use what they learned. Comments included “give the workbook a try,” “set up different contract templates for different types of cost share,” and “great refresher.” Participants said they appreciated the trainers’ willingness to engage participants using annotation tools and questions was. Thank you to the LGU staff members who took time from their busy schedules to enhance their skill set to complete contracts with landowners!
 New Training Resources
“What training should I take?” That is a question we often hear here at TTCP, and the answer is always the same – “It depends.”
Although position titles are often the same, job duties across the partnership throughout Minnesota can vary widely. To help better address this question we have developed some new training resources.
One of these resources is New Employee Training Roadmap. This document is intended to guide new staff through introductory training during their first 90 days on the job. In addition to getting the ball rolling on accessing AgLearn (the USDA training website), it points new staff to the Core Competency modules, Conservation Planner Certification, information on Job Approval Authority, and a collection of introductory trainings.
TTCP has also put together collections of trainings and resources to create a Training Series for specific practices. Each Training Series provides a direct link to the most relevant trainings to help you build your knowledge, skills, and abilities. These are currently available for the most commonly requested trainings submitted through the Individual Development Plan process, but we will continue to add them.
