Nook gift shop and Indiana State Library: Open for business

nook

As the Indiana State Library prepares to restore its full services on July 6, here’s a reminder of what the library provides for patrons. The State Library acts as a public access point to current and historical government information and genealogy research at global, federal, state and local levels. Librarians and staff are available to assist patrons with print and online resources, which give them the tools they need to find data and information on U.S. and Indiana history and law, Indiana newspapers, family history, census records, statistics, maps, Indiana business and books by Indiana authors.

The library’s seven levels of stacks contain fiction and non-fiction materials from around the world on a variety of topics, all searchable in the Evergreen catalog. The in-house conservation lab ensures that items at the library, including those from the special Rare Books and Manuscripts Collection, are preserved and ready to be viewed by visitors and patrons. The Talking Book and Braille Library houses a large collection of materials for patrons who don’t use standard printed materials due to visual or physical disabilities. The Young Readers Center is open and ready for families to browse and play in the Clifford doghouse. The State Library encourages visitors to play in the Educational Center on the first floor, where they’ll find a model of the Indiana Statehouse and several interactive games and displays.

Visitors to the State Library are also encouraged to stop by the Nook retail space during library hours to peruse a selection of gifts and Hoosier merchandise. Nook has a unique collection of materials aimed at pleasing those who love Indiana.

A special discount of 20% off will apply to all visitors during the month of July. After July, Indiana state employees will continue to receive a 20% discount on all merchandise.

The library is located at 315 W. Ohio St. in downtown Indianapolis. Please call 317-232-3675 for more information.
