City of Goleta’s District Elections Process Officially Underway

First Workshop Held and www.DrawGoleta.org Unveiled

The City of Goleta is off and running with its transition to District Elections in November of 2022. Monday night, June 7, 2021, the City held its first public workshop to educate the community on how this historic process works. During the virtual Zoom workshop, attendees learned the steps needed in order to move to district elections and also got a chance to check out the City’s new district elections website, www.DrawGoleta.org. If you haven’t had a chance to check it out, we encourage you to do so. Eventually, you will be able to use the website to draw your own map with district lines.

If you were unable to attend the workshop, you can watch a recording here: https://youtu.be/n4gcNt-ewWo and on Goleta TV Channel 19 Tuesdays at 9:00 p.m. and Wednesdays & Saturdays at 10:00 p.m. The slideshow presentation is also available at https://drawgoleta.org/schedule/ under the June 7th date.

Up next, there are two in-person District Elections workshops. We hope you will join us Saturday, June 26th at 11:00 a.m. at the Goleta Union School District Boardroom located at 401 N. Fairview Avenue and/or Monday, August 2 at 6:00 p.m., location to be determined. Spanish interpretation will be available both dates.

With district elections, the City will be divided into four districts, and voters in each district will elect a City Council member who lives in their own district. The mayor will continue to be elected by voters across Goleta. Public input is a critical part of this process.

For more detailed information, go to www.DrawGoleta.org; in the coming weeks there will be tools on the website to allow you to draw your own map. The website includes both demographic and geographic information in the StoryMap section to help you create proposed district lines.

For additional questions, contact cityclerkgroup@cityofgoleta.org or call 805-961-7505.

We hope to see you at one of our upcoming workshops and we thank you in advance for participating in this historic process for the City of Goleta.
