All industrial storm water permit forms and reports can now be submitted through the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ (DNR) online Water ePermitting System.
This allows an existing permittee to submit storm water pollution prevention plans (SWPPP), quarterly visual inspection reports, annual facility site inspection reports (AFSCI), storm water sampling information, non-storm water discharge monitoring data or other forms and reports.
The online system is available on our water permit applications webpage.
- The storm water program currently has construction site and industrial facility permit applications (Notices of Intent) and Notices of Termination, and municipal eReporting available online.
- The e-permitting system does not require any special software, is completely web-based and available with any internet browser.
- Online forms provide an immediate notification to staff once submitted, store the information electronically and make all submittals publicly available.

Semi-annual reporting for the period of January 1, 2021 to June 30, 2021 is due by July 30, 2021. Semi-annual reporting is required of responsible parties (RPs) for all open sites, including those sites the DNR formerly classified as “conditionally closed” in the BRRTS online database. Consultants may submit these reports on behalf of RPs.
An email from the DNR with a unique Report Identification (ID) number was sent during the first week of July 2021 to contacts of sites listed in the database. If you did not receive an email, you can request a Report ID number by submitting the Report ID Request Form. The Report ID number uniquely identifies the activity for which you wish to report, the reporting period, and verifies the person using the Report ID is authorized to submit the report. EPA’s 2021-2022 SBIR Phase I solicitation is now open. EPA is calling for small businesses to apply for Phase I awards for up to $100,000 to demonstrate the feasibility of developing and commercializing an innovative technology under an SBIR solicitation topic. Phase I applications are being accepted until August 3, 2021. Topics include:
Sustainable Materials Management
- Innovative technologies that help consumers prevent food waste in the acquisition, preparation, and storage of food.
- Innovative technologies that will improve the U.S. recycling system.
- Low impact reusable and recyclable material alternatives to low value plastic items that escape management.
- Low impact construction materials and technologies to reduce embodied carbon of buildings.
- Low impact construction materials and technologies to increase resiliency to disasters and recovery of materials generated from these incidents.
Clean and Safe Water
- Technologies to process environmental samples of microplastics.
- Technologies to remove microplastics from wastewater or stormwater.

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced a move to provide more frequent updates to national air toxics data and risk estimates as part of the agency’s commitment to making high-quality information available on a timely basis to the public. The agency’s new approach will provide an annual, more systematic update for all air toxics information, including emissions, ambient concentrations, national screening risk estimates and monitoring data.
Later this year, EPA will update a popular and accessible tool, EJSCREEN, with risk estimates using 2017 data about air toxics emissions. EPA will update EJSCREEN again next year using 2018 emissions. The agency will keep updating EJSCREEN with the latest information as we transition, incorporating the latest risk results into EPA’s Annual Air Trends Report, so the public can receive a more complete picture of current air quality – including air pollution identified as “criteria” pollutants and air toxics. EPA’s goal is to launch the new, robust report in 2023.
