2021 TIM Capability Maturity Self Assessment (TIM CM SA) Training Webinar

For the past 18 years, the state of practice in Traffic Incident Management (TIM) has been annually measured and benchmarked through the Federal Highway Administration’s TIM Capability Maturity Self-Assessment (TIM CM SA). The TIM CM SA serves multiple purposes. At the local level, it allows TIM program managers to gauge progress in discrete program areas (e.g. multi-agency TIM teams, policies and procedures, and training). At the national level, FHWA and other TIM stakeholders can utilize the aggregated results and analysis to identify TIM strengths and weaknesses and better allocate program resources.

To expand the number of TIM programs participating in the annual TIM CM SA, FHWA has now created an abbreviated assessment designed specifically for rural and/or emerging TIM programs in the non-Top 75 metropolitan areas. The abbreviated assessment will help evaluate program’s progress while recognizing that the programs may not have the resources available to counterparts in major metropolitan areas.

A training session on the 2021 TIM Capability Maturity Self-Assessment – both the current TIM CM SA and the new version for rural and/or emerging TIM programs – will be held via webinar on Tuesday September 1, 2021 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM ET. ALL TIM CM SA users are encouraged to participate in the webinar to better understand how you can utilize the TIM CM SA findings to improve your TIM program.

You may join the event from your own workstation using your computer with internet connection and phone. You may also join from a conference room in your office where many people may view the presentation using one connection.

Crash Responder Safety Week (CRSW) All-States Planning Webinar

The FHWA invites State and local public information and communications officers, TIM professionals, and response community leaders to the Crash Responder Safety Week (formerly National Traffic Incident Response Awareness Week) Planning Webinar on September 8, 2021 from 3:00 to 4:30 PM ET. The initiative, recognizing all TIM response communities, will take place from Monday, November 8, 2021 through Sunday, November 14, 2021. This week is our opportunity to make a difference individually and jointly for safety during traffic incident response by teaching each other and the motoring public about our common goal and responsibility for safe, quick roadway incident clearance.

During this webinar, the FHWA TIM Team will introduce social media examples based on the day of week themes for CRSW. The webinar also spotlights agencies use of dynamic message signs to promote Move Over law awareness and adherence during CRSW. During this and subsequent planning webinars, the FHWA co-leads will conduct an all-state roll call, requesting responder communities in each State highlight their plans to commemorate the week. We kindly request highlights be limited to a minute or two.
