DNR Receives Results Of Recent Surface Water Foam Testing

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) received additional sample results from Johnson Controls, Inc. and Tyco Fire Products, LP (JCI/Tyco) further confirming the presence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in surface water foam collected on waterways in the city of Marinette and the town of Peshtigo. Information regarding the findings is also available on JCI/Tyco's webpage regarding the PFAS contamination in Marinette-Peshtigo.

JCI/Tyco collects surface water foam from small streams as part of its ongoing site investigation and response activities associated with PFAS contamination from its Fire Technology Center (FTC) in Marinette. This is the second time surface water foam collected from the waterways has been tested for PFAS; previous results were reported to the DNR in June 2021. JCI/Tyco will continue to collect and test surface water foam as part of its foam monitoring plan. Future results submitted to the DNR will be posted to the Bureau for Remediation and Redevelopment Tracking System (BRRTS) on the Web.

The DNR is working with community leaders, JCI/Tyco and the Wisconsin Department of Health Services to update information and locations of signs posted near affected water bodies. The purpose of the signs is to notify the public about the presence of PFAS in surface water foam.
