Peggy's World - Restorative Service

Peggy's world

Peggy’s World is now offering a restorative care service.  You may know this as respite, or carer break services.  The aim is to restore balance for a family by offering a flexible approach to support for families in the earlier stages of dementia, or just simply getting older and need company and low level support.

Peggy’s World will be open 24 hours a day, with stays from one night to eight weeks.  The rooms are all en-suite and they aim to maintain independence as far as possible.  They also offer rehabilitative care for those who may be discharged from hospital but not quite confident enough to go home.

There is a separate kitchen for carers and those who wish to remain independent, or need a cup of tea at 2 am!  A staff member will always be around to chat to if needed.  Any current care packages in place for people can also continue if a person is staying at Peggy’s World, as long as they are CQC registered.

If you would like to know more, or arrange an assessment or visit please contact Cathy Gibbs or Tilly Brock on 01724 808108. Further information is available on the Peggy's World website

Stoptober

Stoptober

Stoptober, the 28-day stop smoking campaign from Public Health England, will be back in October 2019.

Stoptober has been responsible for over 1 million quit attempts to date and is the biggest mass quit attempt in the country. It is based on research that shows that if you can stop smoking for 28-days, you are five times more likely to stay smokefree for good.

There are lots of ways to quit and Stoptober can help you choose what works for you. Stoptober offers a range of free support to help you on your quitting journey including an app, daily emails, Facebook Messenger and lots of encouragement from the Stoptober online community on Facebook. In addition, you can get expert face-to-face advice from local stop smoking services. Those who use stop smoking aids and who get face-to-face support from their local stop smoking service are up to four times more likely to quit successfully.

Reasons to stop smoking:

  • Save Money - You'll have much more cash in your pocket. If you smoke a packet a day, you could save around £250 each month
  • Protect your Family - Quitting helps protect your loved ones from harmful second-hand smoke – reducing their risk of developing asthma, meningitis and some cancers
  • Feel Healthier - No matter how long you've smoked for, quitting can help improve your health straight away
