Dear Washingtonians,
It has been a thrilling October in the Sports Capital! First, the Mystics brought home a championship. Then, the Nationals swept the Cardinals to capture their first-ever National League pennant. And, now, we are ready, for the first time in 86 years, to welcome the World Series to Washington, DC.
The Nats need four wins to take the series, and we have four tasks for all fans:
- Don’t drive
- Arrive early
- Drink responsibly
- Cheer loudly
The Nats are returning to DC with a 2-0 lead, and I know that we are all ready to cheer them on as they finish the fight. Whether you're celebrating from inside the ballpark, at a watch party, or from home, let's work together to have fun and stay safe.

 On Monday, October 28, join the Bowser Administration at the Freer Gallery of Art as we celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights, with a lamp lighting ceremony, cultural performances, and light refreshments!

 On Tuesday, October 29, join Mayor Bowser at the 33rd Annual 17th Street High Heel Race. The High Heel Race is one of Washington, DC's most unique and popular events. Each year, thousands of spectators flock to the event to watch drag queens show off their amazing outfits and race down 17th Street in heels.
The parade starts at 7:00 p.m. and the race, which generally lasts fewer than ten minutes, will start at 9:00 p.m.

 The 34th Annual Mayor’s Arts Awards, which celebrate and honor leaders, visionaries, and trendsetters who are the essence of the District’s creative economy, will be held at 7:00 p.m. on November 6, at Dock 5 (1309 5th Street, NE).

This week’s District Minute features stories about the transformation of Grimke School, 11 years of continued enrollment growth at DC's public schools, and the World Series.
 The mission of the Department of For-Hire Vehicles (DFHV) is to protect public interest by regulating the vehicle-for-hire industry to allow residents and visitors of the District of Columbia to have safe, affordable, and accessible transportation options.
DFHV has an opening for a Transportation Planner. This position is responsible for assessing the operational effectiveness of transportation services relative to capacity, design, level-of-service, and safety.
