Dear Washingtonians,
It's a wonderful week in Washington, DC: The Washington Nationals are World Series champions and the District's public schools are the fastest improving in the nation!
How'd we get here? In both cases, we got here because over a decade ago our community worked together to make this week possible. Together, we brought baseball back to the District; and, together, we made the choice to invest in and prioritize our public schools.
As we celebrate both of these achievements, I am inspired by the reminder of what is possible when we build citywide solutions to citywide challenges. I am proud of the persistence and perseverance of our students and educators; and I am motivated to always stay in the fight by this joyful and tenacious Nationals team.
Now, let's keep working together to continue building a diverse, equitable, resilient, and winning DC!

 The #SportsCapital will host a parade to celebrate the Washington Nationals’ World Series victory! The 2019 Nationals Championship Parade is scheduled for Saturday, November 2, at 2:00 p.m. The parade will begin on Constitution Avenue NW at 15th Street NW, proceed east along Constitution Avenue NW, and end on Pennsylvania Avenue NW at 3rd Street NW with a team rally.
Fans attending the parade are encouraged to:
- Text “NATS” to 888-777 to receive text alerts on safety, transit, and weather updates from the District about the parade;
- Leave your car at home - take Metro or the many other public transit options as parking will be extremely limited near the route;
- Use #FightFinished on social media; and
- Visit sportscapital.dc.gov for the latest information.

 Tonight, each Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) district station will host a Halloween safe haven event where they decorate the station and provide candy, fun, and entertainment for members of the community.

 Beginning Monday, November 4, the Department of Public Works (DPW) will begin leaf collection. Collecting leaves reduces potential accidents and injuries caused by slipping on wet leaves and prevents catch basins and storm drains from clogging and causing street flooding during heavy rains.

This week’s District Minute features stories about the World Series, the 17th Street High Heel Race, and Dave Chappelle.
 The mission of the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS) is to provide court-involved youth the opportunity to become more productive residents by building on the strengths of youth and their families in the least restrictive, most home-like environment consistent with public safety.
DYRS has an opening for a Youth Development Representative. This position is responsible for the rehabilitation, direct supervision and active positive engagement, as well as the safety and security of youth in the custody of DYRS.
