Gov. Evers Orders Flags to Half-Staff in Honor of Army Pfc. Eugene E. Lochowicz

MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers today ordered the flags of the United States and the state of Wisconsin to be flown at half-staff on Sat., Nov. 16, 2019, in honor of Army Pfc. Eugene E. Lochowicz who was killed during World War II.

Army Pfc. Lochowicz, 19, of Milwaukee, went missing on Feb. 23, 1945 while his unit crossed the Roer River under fire, near Lendersdorf, Germany. He was serving as a member of Company A, 28th Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division. The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency identified his remains, and he was accounted for on July 24, 2019.

“After many years of unsuccessful efforts to find Army Pfc. Lochowicz, his family can have peace of mind knowing he will be returning to his hometown of Milwaukee,” Gov. Evers said. “The people of Wisconsin are forever grateful for his service, selflessness, and sacrifice, and our thoughts are with his family as they lay him to rest on Saturday.”
