December was a wonderful blur of activity for both of us, ending with enjoying our holidays with the deep appreciation for spending time with family and friends. January brings renewed energy, sense of purpose, and a brand new way to contact us. wy-canvas@instructure.com is now a single email to contact us both. Canvas Best Practices-Training Services Portal
Opportunities for personal professional development are everywhere. In fact, you may already have a list of items to accomplish by the end of the spring semester, or even the summer. We have an opportunity for personal professional development that is available inside Canvas, in the Training Services Portal.

The Training Services Portal is found by selecting your Help Menu then selecting Training Services Portal. If you have never accessed the Portal before, a pop up box will ask you to authorize your email address to access the portal. Once you select “Authorize,” the Training Services Portal will load.
In the portal there are a variety of ways to learn about Canvas, from guided asynchronous courses, to individual video sessions, to live webinars hosted every weekday, all on a variety of Canvas topics. As an incentive, if you register for and participate in the live webinar sessions, the WDE will grant you a half of a PTSB credit for every seven webinar sessions you attend and complete. You can keep up your credits for relicensure while learning more about Canvas. These live one-hour sessions start as early as 6:30 a.m. and as late as 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with a more limited schedule on Friday. If these schedules don’t work, sessions are also offered all summer long. Sign up for a live webinar to both learn about Canvas and earn some PTSB credits.
Canvas Spotlight-Impact by Instructure
Impact by Instructure, is a solution designed to help institutions support teachers in the adoption of education technologies, seamlessly navigate new platforms, and to evaluate the impact they have on student engagement and outcomes. The Instructure Community now has a dedicated space for Impact resources and engagement! It’s your one-stop shop for documentation, release communications, Q&A, idea conversations, training resources, support portal links, a public roadmap, product blogs, and more.
Statewide Adoption Consulting Meeting
These meetings are to discuss the successes, concerns, and needs of Canvas districts around Wyoming and to demonstrate new Canvas features. Consulting meetings will start at 10 a.m. on the fourth Thursday of every month. Our next meeting will be held at 10 a.m. on January 27, 2022. Contact wy-canvas@instructure.com to be added to the calendar invite. Invites are typically sent out one week in advance of the meeting.
There are as many stories about how Canvas has changed education in Wyoming as there are educators, and every story is unique. The Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) wants to hear stories about how teachers are using Canvas in their classrooms. Reach out to your Canvas Adoption Consultants, David (dstokowski@instructure.com) and/or Kelley (klozicki@instructure.com) to share your “why” for using Canvas. The agency would like to feature at least one Canvas user each month in this newsletter.
The University of Wyoming’s Teacher Education Initiative will be leading a number of courses during this school year. One course is “Canvas Structure” and will take an in-depth look at how Canvas can be used to teach virtual courses.
