As a local government leader, as well as President of the County Executives Association of America, I understand the importance of protecting the safety of citizens and I believe that the President’s Executive Order is what he has to do to better protect us all. We are off and running in the New Year. Our team is preparing for the opening of the 2016 Legislative Session, which convenes January 13 in Annapolis, Maryland. In the coming weeks, look for updates to stay abreast of our efforts and progress during the 436th session of the General Assembly.

The County's Budget Season is also underway and public hearings will be held (dates to be announced) to solicit your input as we prepare to submit our proposed FY2017 budget to the County Council.

On a lighter note, I know that many of you have made resolutions for 2016 that will enhance your life. Whether you're starting a new exercise routine, seeking a new job, starting a new business, improving your health and fitness, going back to school or volunteering in the community, there are numerous resources in the County that can help you make 2016 the best that it can be. County to honor Wayne K. Curry

County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III, issued an Executive Order that will create a committee that will be charged with recommending a Prince George’s County government building to be named after former County Executive Wayne K. Curry to commemorate his contributions to the County. Baker issued the order on January 6th, which would have been Curry’s 65th birthday. More...

New year, new laws

A ban on the use of electronic cigarettes indoors will soon take effect in Prince George’s County, one of several new laws in the region in 2016. Higher fines for littering within the County are now in place as well. Violators will be fined $1,000, which is double the previous penalty. More...

Stop the violence march on King Day

Citizens and leaders throughout the County will join together on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 18, 2016, for a Stop the Violence march in Prince George's County. The march is the launch of a year-long effort to reduce violence. More
