Dear Washingtonians,
This week was all about jobs: jobs at MPD, jobs at DC Government, and good-paying earn-and-learn job training programs at the DC Infrastructure Academy. The message throughout the week was simple: there is opportunity available in DC right now and we want DC residents to be first in line.
In fact, DC Government is currently hiring, and we want people who live in DC and who love DC to come work for DC. Next week, on Wednesday, March 16 and Thursday, March 17, the DC Department of Human Resources will host the District's largest ever virtual hiring fair. Many of our managers will be empowered to make on-the-spot job offers to the right candidates. We have positions available across District agencies, at every level, so if you need a job or you're looking for a new job or you know someone looking for a job, you can learn more about the two-day job fair and register HERE.
We also have a number of grant opportunities available for employers in DC who want to partner with us to create earn-and-learn training opportunities or other job readiness programs. Interested employers can learn more HERE.
We have so much talent in DC — lifelong residents like Monet who are looking for their fair shot. We also have a lot of opportunity. Let's keep working together to make sure the people who live in our city are ready for and connected to the opportunities in our city.

 Tomorrow, on Saturday, March 12 at 10:00 a.m., the Mayor's Office of Community Affairs (MOCA) and the Mayor's Office of Community Relations and Services (MOCRS) are hosting a Meet & Greet at St. Luke Catholic Church!
This event will give DC residents an opportunity to:
- learn more about the Mayor's Office of Community Affairs and the services its 12 constituent offices provide;
- meet and engage with representatives of the Mayor's Office of Community Relations and Services;
- meet community partners and organizations;
- ask questions and share ideas on how our offices can work with the community; and
- engage fellow Washingtonians and learn more about their concerns and challenges.

 Spring is just around the corner and that means it is already time for families to start thinking about summer programming. DC Public Schools (DCPS) is inviting all DCPS students currently enrolled in pre-K4 through 4th grade to be part of the DCPS Elementary Summer Acceleration program. This five-week program will take place on weekdays from July 5 to August 5 and offer full days of learning, fun, and friendship. Families can register for the Summer Acceleration program HERE. Space is limited, and families will be directed to the school in their assigned neighborhood feeder pattern when registering online.
Families can also join a Parent University workshop on March 15 at 5:30 p.m. to learn more about elementary summer offerings. RSVP for the event here.
DCPS also has a full slate of programming for middle school students this summer, and information on how to register for additional programs will be available this spring. Families can learn more about those opportunities at dcps.dc.gov/summer.

 This year, Blacks in Wax is back in person and on stage at THEARC! On Friday, March 18, the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center (SETLC) youth scholars will bring iconic figures to life through powerful acting performances for the 15th Annual Blacks in Wax.
Blacks in Wax is a creative production of vignettes that educate and entertain all ages through dance, music, and drama.

 In celebration of Women's History Month, Mayor Bowser invites residents to celebrate the history making women of Washington, DC by joining in the 4th Annual FITDC HerStory 5K, which will be held in-person at Freedom Plaza on Saturday, March 19 at 9:00 a.m.
The FITDC HerStory 5K is a Women’s History Month tradition, hosted by the DC Department of Parks and Recreation that routinely draws over 2,000 participants from all eight wards. Last year, when the in-person event was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a virtual 5K was held and over 2,500 participants signed up to run in their own neighborhoods.
A commemorative HerStory 5K t-shirt and runner’s bib will be provided to all participants while supplies last, courtesy of AETNA. Learn more and register at herstory5k.com.
