Change happens!
Change is a constant in our lives and work. Many of us may wish to avoid change, but a better approach is to understand and know how to successfully navigate change. Harvard professor and Chairman of Kotter, Dr. John Kotter has identified eight steps to working through change:
- Create a sense of urgency
- Build a guiding coalition
- Form a strategic vision and initiatives
- Enlist a volunteer army
- Enable action by removing barriers
- Generate short-term wins
- Sustain acceleration
- Institute change

 Streambank Protection Training
With over 92,000 miles of streams and rivers in Minnesota, there are plenty of stream related erosion concerns to make Streambank Protection a fairly common practice conservation staff wish to use. A beginner virtual Streambank Protection training will be offered April 27-28. This webinar session is intended to be a basic course covering background information and the planning phase of streambank conservation projects. We will define stream restoration and protection terminology as well as discuss which resources and NRCS standards apply. Examples and costs for different methods including structural practices, bioengineering practices, and vegetative practices will be discussed.
Registration will be required to attend the session and will be posted on the Training Calendar in the near future.
2022 Conservation Planning Course
As mentioned in Train Tracks last month, the 2022 Conservation Planning Course will be held in August. This course is intended for technical staff with some experience that are ready to take the next big step in conservation planning. This is not an introductory course, and there are many prerequisites to help students prepare.
Course attendees are required to be Level I Conservation Planners before attending, and it is expected that those attending this course will complete the additional requirements to become Level III Conservation Planners. The Level I Conservation Planner requirements can be found here. Many of these requirements are self-paced trainings through NRCS’s training system, called AgLearn. If you don’t already have an AgLearn account you can find instructions on requesting access here.
In addition to being a Level I Conservation Planner, all attendees need to complete the Core Competency modules before attending.
The course registration will be out soon, so don’t wait to get started on the prerequisites. If you have questions or need assistance with the Conservation Planning Course, please contact us.
