“Last week, Governor Hogan told Marylanders that the State is much stronger than it was a year ago and that we are heading in the right direction. What he did not tell us is how children and families have gotten the short-end of the stick in certain counties and municipalities around the State. Whether it is school funding, transportation, public safety or funding and building a stronger health care system, it is becoming more and more evident that Governor Hogan’s administration is not interested in investing in the people of Prince George’s County. Invariably, this lack of investment is not good for our residents or the State of Maryland. A year ago, Governor Hogan talked about being a governor for all Marylanders, but his proposed budget sends a very different message. Please email or call the Governor to voice your displeasure." More…

County Executive Baker rallies Democratic leaders from Maryland's largest jurisdictions to criticize Gov. Hogan for neglecting education, infrastructure and transportation priorities in his budget.

The leaders of Maryland's largest jurisdictions joined County Executive Baker to urge Republican governor Larry Hogan to stop shortchanging their jurisdictions of necessary money for education, infrastructure and transportation priorities. In addition, last week the Governor proposed $15 million in a fiscal 2017 supplemental budget for operational funding to support the Prince George’s hospital system. But County Executive Baker said that the move does not go far enough. He is also asking Governor Hogan to release $15 million in hospital funding needed for the current 2016 budget year.

(NASDAQ: TWOU), a leader in technology-enabled education headquartered in Prince George’s County, announced that the company will be moving its headquarters to New Carrollton to accommodate its growing workforce. 2U expects to create more than 900 jobs in the County in the next five years.

The company is leasing space at 7900 Harkins Road, which is owned by Cohen Equities and located within the New Carrollton Transit Oriented Development site. “2U’s decision to relocate to the once vacant Harkins Road building is a major victory for Prince George’s County,” said Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III. “Not only have we successfully retained an award-winning  technology business that is recognized as one of the fastest growing companies in the Washington region; it also supports our TOD (Transit Oriented Development) strategy to expand this type of development at key locations around the County." More…
