MAINTENANCE & CUSTOMER SERVICE

  • WIDA AMS Upgrade at 7 p.m. MDT on May 5 and June 2, 2022.
  • WIDA AMS Security Patch from 10 p.m. MDT Saturday to 10 a.m. MDT Sunday on June 4-5, 2022.

MAY/JUNE WDE684 END OF YEAR COLLECTION WINDOW

May 23-June 24, 2022

  • A key purpose of the WDE684 collection is to identify the number of Active ELs and any students in Monitor Status. Once the initial collection period ends and the WDE has received all the WDE684 data, validations will be performed, and an error report can be created. Districts with errors will be contacted and provided with a description of the error. 
  • The data clean up period is June 27-July 1, 2022. Take this time to review and validate all WDE684 student information.

EL AND TITLE III QUARTERLY WEBINAR

From 10-11:15 a.m. on May 25, 2022

  • The WDE English Learner (EL) Quarterly Webinar is designed to provide up-to-date clarifying information and specific details on revisions to EL and Title III programs, processes, and documents.
  • Sessions will offer guidance on a number of topics specific to all districts serving ELs. Q&A session will follow.

WY-ALT CONTENT AND FAIRNESS REVIEW

Applications Due May 26, 2022

  • The WDE seeks Wyoming educators to participate in the WY-ALT Content and Fairness Item Review Committee meetings (ELA, Math, Science). 
  • Meetings will be held virtually the week of June 20, 2022.
  • Apply here if interested.

WYOMING SEAL OF BILITERACY

Effective July 1, 2022 - Starting 2022-23 School Year

  • Senate Enrolled Act 47 requires the state superintendent of public instruction to establish a Wyoming Seal of Biliteracy for high school graduates who are proficient in English and one or more world languages.
  • The act also creates a seal with an advanced distinction.
  • Policies on the use and appearance of the Wyoming seal for student transcripts will be developed. 
  • A Call for committee is open through 11:59 p.m. on May 29, 2022.
  • The Advisory Committee will convene in Cheyenne for a full day in the week of June 6, 2022.
  • Public and educator input is also being collected. To provide input, complete the Seal of Biliteracy Public Input Survey by 11:59 p.m. on June 2, 2022.

ACCESS FOR ELLs SCORE REPORT RESOURCES

With ACCESS for ELLs score reporting dates drawing near, here are some next steps and key resources:


ADVANCING ALTELLA BIAS, SENSITIVITY AND CONTENT (BSC) REVIEW

Response Needed by May 27, 2022

  • The Advancing ALTELLA team will be conducting Bias, Sensitivity and Content reviews in August 2022.
  • Educators interested in participating in the Advancing ALTELLA BSC review must complete the interest survey by 115:59 p.m. CDT on May 27, 2022. The Advancing ALTELLA team will follow up with educators accordingly.
  • More information on the cognitive labs may also be found in the survey.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Interpreting ACCESS for ELLS Score Reports for Instruction

From 3:30-5 p.m. MDT on Monday, May 12, 2022

During this training participants will explore how the WIDA Standards and Assessment System is connected to the ACCESS for ELLs score reports, and will examine the different types and uses of various score reports.  Participants will be able to:

  • Explain the purpose of the ACCESS for ELLs Assessment.
  • Identify the differences in the types of ACCESS for ELLs Score Reports and their uses.
  • Describe considerations and methods for disseminating information contained in the score reports.

Celebrating Biliteracy: Realizing a Better Future for Our Spanish Speakers

From 9 a.m.-3 p.m. MDT on Thursday, May 19, 2022

  • Participants will discover evidence-based ways to honor the unique skills, strengths, and needs English language learners bring to the classroom, as well as how to accelerate their literacy skills with Science of Reading-aligned strategies. 
  • While this interactive event has a special focus on Spanish speakers, the sessions are designed for participants to walk away with Science of Reading-aligned strategies for supporting all of your English language learners.  Certificates of attendance will be awarded.

Going Beyond Translation: Boosting Metalinguistic Awareness for Multilingual Students From 1-2 p.m. on May 19, 2022

  • Participants will identify ways to help multilingual learners boost their metalinguistic awareness. 
  • We will explore examples from Newcomer classrooms and offer ideas to help students bridge their home languages to the target language of instruction.

WIDA HIGHLIGHTS

  • WIDA Secure Portal Survey available to give feedback surrounding the redesigned Secure Portal experience. 
  • KW-APT will be retired and support from WIDA will stop as of June 30, 2022.
  • WIDA Annual Conference Registration opened on May 2, 2022.
  • WIDA will hold a webinar detailing the technical enhancements to the ACCESS system at noon MDT on May 17, 2022. Register on the WIDA Secure Portal. 
  • Help WIDA understand how, and to what extent, educators in the consortium use the Speaking and Listening rubrics by completing this five-minute survey.
  • In an effort to expand WIDA Español offerings, WIDA is conducting a survey. It is open from April 15-May 13, 2022 and will take less than 10 minutes to complete.Participants who complete the survey will have a chance to win a $250 gift card.
  • District level users in WIDA AMS may now access and download the District Student Response (DSR) File Layout from WIDA AMS by selecting My Applications > General Information >Documents. LEAs may use the file layout to better understand and interpret student score information contained in the DSR report.
