This week, City Manager Ryann Juden announced Jacqueline Gravatt as the new North Las Vegas Chief of Police. Captain Michael Harris was also promoted to Assistant Chief. Chief Gravatt and Assistant Chief Harris have been key in developing and expanding community policing and citizen engagement initiatives that have helped bring North Las Vegas’ crime rate down 35 percent from a decade ago.

Veterans Resource Center breaks ground in North Las Vegas 

 

The North Las Vegas City Council and the Veterans' Community Commission recently  celebrated the groundbreaking of the North Las Vegas Veterans Resource Center! As part of the City's commitment to veterans and members of the military, the center will provide information about resources and social services, a space to collaborate with service providers, room for meetings and programming, and opportunities for social activities. It is expected to open by the end of the year!

Join our COP Division for a free community barbecue! The free event is slated from 12-4 p.m., Saturday, May 21 at Valley View Park, 2000 Bennett Street, North Las Vegas.  There will be face painting, balloon artists, music, volleyball and vendors for community services and more!

 

Next week, join our North Las Vegas Police Department and Fire Department for a Battle of the Badge Blood Drive! The community blood drive is set from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, May 23 at Aliante Casino, 7300 N. Aliante Pkwy., North Las Vegas. Movie Madness: Free showing of "Space Jam: A New Legacy" at Seastrand Park

 

Movie Madness continues with a showing of "Space Jam: A New Legacy" at dusk (approximately 7:30 p.m.) on Friday, May 20 at Seastrand Park, 6330 Camino Eldorado Pkwy., North Las Vegas.

 

NBA champion and global icon LeBron James goes on an epic adventure alongside timeless Tune Bugs Bunny with the animated/live-action event "Space Jam: A New Legacy." This transformational journey is a manic mashup of two worlds that reveals just how far some parents will go to connect with their kids. When LeBron and his young son Dom are trapped in a digital space by a rogue A.I., LeBron must get them home safe by leading Bugs, Lola Bunny and the whole gang of notoriously undisciplined Looney Tunes to victory over the A.I.'s digitized champions on the court in this free showing of "Space Jam: A New Legacy.” 

 

The free event is part of the City's mission is to enhance the quality of life for residents by providing a variety of family-friendly entertainment opportunities across North Las Vegas. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. The I Love the 90’s Tour is coming back to select stages, including The Amp at Craig Ranch next Friday, May 20! Featuring headliner Vanilla Ice, the tour will additionally host a revolving lineup of 90’s hit makers including Rob Base, Color Me Badd, and Young MC! Purchase tickets online today! The event will have free parking, food trucks and more! 

 

Our summer lineup continues with Ja Rule + Ashanti (Aug. 25), Lost 80’s Live! (August 26) and Gipsy Kings featuring Nicolas Reyes (Sept. 2). Opened in 2015, The Amp is the only large-scale outdoor amphitheater in the Las Vegas valley located inside Craig Ranch Regional Park with seating capacity up to 6,800.

I was thrilled to join our partners at DR Horton for its Galaxy Park ribbon cutting! The community park is located inside Valley Vista on the southwest corner of Farm and Camille Park Road. I was even able to get in a game of pickleball with Councilman Scott Black. Thank you for providing our community with this beautiful park!

Color Run in memory of Assemblyman Tyrone Thompson

 

Please join me at the 2nd Annual Color Run in memory of Assemblyman Tyrone Thompson at 7 a.m., May 29. This special event is hosted by Ty's Place - A Safe Place for Teens located at 205 W. Centennial Ste. 130 in North Las Vegas. Thompson was chair of the North Las Vegas Assembly Education Committee when he suddenly passed away in May 2019, at the age of 51.He was a true champion for education and he cared so deeply about our youth and their future. I hope to see you all there!

Health Fair set for Monday at MLK Senior Center

 

I am proud to partner with the Armed Forces Chamber for its 2022 Health Fair at the Martin Luther King Jr., Senior Center, located at 2420 North Martin Luther King Boulevard, Building B, North Las Vegas. The fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday, May 23 and will offer a wide range of free children’s activities, demonstrations and screenings.
