DATA LITERACY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

State and Regional Data - Key Findings from SP21 Administration

How did the COVID-19 pandemic impact Wyoming students’ achievement in the assessed content areas? The Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) is offering two Data Literacy Professional Development opportunities. First, in partnership with the BUROS Center for Testing at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, a webinar on June 24, 2022 will provide state- and regional-level findings from the 2020-21 state assessment results. This will include identifying achievement gaps, providing potential hypotheses for the gaps, discussing contextual factors relevant to the interpretation of results, and other key findings and questions to further explore. Register here for this event.

State and Regional Data Dive

In partnership with Marzano Research, the WDE will offer a second opportunity for educators and leaders to come together in a regional session and explore the pandemic effect on achievement. In the session, participants will engage in a facilitated, data-driven, decision-making process with Marzano Research leaders, using rigorously analyzed WY-TOPP/WY-ALT combined data. By the end of the session participants will understand the effect of the pandemic on achievement in core subject areas and generate initial ideas for what to do about it.

Key concepts in the session will include:

  • Understanding the purposes and uses of different types of data.
  • Framing questions that data can answer.
  • Conducting disciplined analysis that lets the data speak.
  • Identifying root cause.
  • Using multiple sources of data and evidence to make decisions.

Marzano Research will facilitate a follow-up session in the fall designed to support leaders in exploring their own specific questions using local data to develop school improvement plans and goals.

Day 1 Trainings are 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. with a working lunch (provided), for the following dates and locations:

  1. Monday, July 11, 2022 - SE Region - Cheyenne - Laramie CSD#1 Administration Building, Room 306.
  2. Monday, July 18, 2022 - SW Region - Green River - Sweetwater CSD#2 Boardroom.
  3. Tuesday, July 19, 2022 - NW Region - Lander - Fremont CSD #24 Boardroom.
  4. Thursday, July 21, 2022 - NE Region - Gillette - Campbell CSD #1 Lakewood Learning Center - Willow Room.
  5. Friday, July 22, 2022 - Central Region - Casper - Natrona CSD#1 Central Services Facility, Jefferson/East Rooms.

District/school teams must register here. Districts may register multiple teams. When creating teams, consider district/school administrators, teacher leaders from assessed content areas, instructional facilitators, curriculum specialists, assessment coordinator/data specialist, and educators of special populations.
