Recommended Budget

edc

It is Budget Time again, and on Tuesday, June 7, there will be a Hearing on the 2022-23 Recommended Budget.  The Budget Book is linked below and I encourage you to dive into it.  You will find it clearly laid out and user friendly with clear insights into Board priorities and policies.

When reading the Recommended Budget, it is easy to be overwhelmed with large numbers and a vast array of expenditures. Here is some important information that helps to provide context to the recommendations:

  • The Core Values driving our decisions are Accountability, Collaboration, Integrity, Service Excellence, and Fiscal Responsibility.
  • Among comparator counties, EDC has the least number of employees per 1,000 residents.  We are also a County that has 82.4% of its population in the unincorporated area meaning there is a lot of demand on County services.
  • This year, the BOS did make a significant investment in our workforce so we can attract and retain quality employees who are dedicated to serving you!
  • .This Budget includes new BOS policy goals of contributing $6M to the Designation for Capital Projects and it increases road maintenance funds by $2M, for a total of $7.95M going for roads and snow removal.   I encourage you to read the CAO Budget Memo to get an effective high level overview of expenditures.
  • Additionally, El Dorado County has $18.4M in state and federal funds to prevent and address homelessness, which the BOS provided direction to staff on April 19th to pursue the development of a short and long-term Navigation Center as part of our response.

There is a lot more to the Budget, so join us on Tuesday, June 7th to weigh in on the 2022-23 Recommended Budget.

Many thanks to all who attended the KICK-OFF MEETING on the Diamond Springs Community Park!  This park is really special!

First, the land was purchased by an anonymous donor for the specific purpose of a community parkHow special is that, given there are NO parks in Diamond Springs!  Secondly, the BOYS and GIRLS CLUB has stepped up to partner and run the programs of this park and the Marshall Foundation for Community Health, the Motherlode School District and the EDUSD are partners with the County in making this happen. (It really does take a Village to create a new park!)

The only thing we need is to know...

What Do You Want?!

We heard at the meeting that soccer and baseball fields are sorely needed!  We will also be incredibly sensitive to the neighbors as to where park amenities are placed to not disturb their peace.  Beyond that, what do you want?  Walking Trails?  An Indoor Gym?  A Natural Playground? Pickleball Courts?  What else?  We want to know!

Email me at bosthree@edcgov.us with your suggestions.  There will also be more opportunities to work with our consultants, so stay tuned and get engaged!

EDC Youth Commission

YC22

On May 17, the BOS heard the final presentation by this year's Youth Commission, and as the Board's liaison to the YC, I must say, these young adults give you hope for the future!  Coming out of years of unprecedented disruption, chaos and loss, they led with strength, optimism, heart and joy.  Their projects focused on Wellness, supporting their peers in being mentally healthy and as they look to the future, they plan to increase the voice of youth in our community.

The day was also bittersweet as they said goodbye to Youth Advisor, Amy Pooley, who is now the Executive Director for CASA.  Amy's inspired leadership has embodied grace and strength in action, helping our youth navigate uncharted waters with success.  Amy will certainly be a blessing to CASA, and the Board of Supervisors congratulates all our youth participants on a successful year.

Night Work on Mo Flat

June 5 - 17

Mo Fl

PG&E is currently performing ongoing utility work along Missouri Flat Road between Old Depot Road and Pleasant Valley Road in order to relocate overhead electric and communications lines to underground facilities

This work is necessary to begin future roadway, drainage, and signalization improvements on Missouri Flat Road at the intersections with Industrial Drive and Enterprise Drive next year.

The utility work will require lane closures with one-way reversing traffic control, for which motorists should
expect delays.

Night work is anticipated to be done June 5-17, 2022, and will be completed between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and
5:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday, in order to complete the trench crossings across Missouri Flat Road.

The County sincerely appreciates the cooperation and patience of motorists that use this roadway, and we
apologize for inconveniences as a result of this work.

For questions regarding this construction, please contact the County’s Transportation main line at (530) 621-
5900 (select Option 3 for Engineering).
