Two Minute Training

Don’t Forget the Pictures in Your PowerPoint

Whether a training is in-person or online, they typically have two things in common. One is a goal to provide information participants remember and the second is a PowerPoint presentation as part of the session.

Based on adult learning theory, it is important to present the information in ways participants can understand and later recall. Pictures that are easily identifiable to the core information are an important way to reinforce recall. As an example, for a message about using pictures for retention of information, I would use a picture of an apple core rather than the words on the slide. It is easier for someone to recall a picture and then recall the message than to recall just the words on a PowerPoint.

Technical Training & Certification Program Updates

It has been a busy summer for training, but there are still seats available in some of our upcoming session. You can always find the most current information for upcoming events on the Training Calendar.

2022 Conservation Planning Course

The 2022 Conservation Planning Course will be held August 2-5 in Morris. Course attendees are required to be Level I Conservation Planners before attending, and it is expected that those attending this course will complete the additional requirements to become Level III Conservation Planners. The Level I Conservation Planner requirements can be found here. In addition to being a Level I Conservation Planner, all attendees need to complete the Core Competency modules before attending. More information and a link to the registration can be found here.

2022 Advanced Grazing Management Training

The Advanced Grazing Management Training will be held August 16-18 in Grand Rapids. This advanced training is intended to be the capstone grazing course. If you have attended previous grazing trainings and you have experience working with livestock producers, this training could be a good opportunity for you. More information and a link to the registration can be found here.

Windbreaks and Tree/Shrub Establishment Training

Save the date! A Windbreak and Tree/Shrub Establishment training is coming up in Watonwan County on Sept 21 and Crow Wing County on Sept 22. This field-based training will review and analyze windbreaks/shelterbelts on different sites to look at design considerations, effectiveness, and long-term maintenance.  Site preparation, planting stock and planting methods will be discussed. Participants will have the opportunity to design a windbreak/shelterbelt or living snow fence for an example site.  Have you identified this as a training need in your IDP? If so, you’ll get a direct email from us as soon as registration opens.

2022 Training Calendar

Starting this month, we will be sharing the working version of our training calendar. This 12-month view of training offerings will provide additional information about upcoming trainings, potentially including locations and other information, and it will be updated monthly. The dates, locations, and other details are always tentative until the training is posted on the Training Calendar. This version of the training calendar can be found here.
