Cooling Stations Available During Heat Wave
Snohomish County has issued an excessive heat warning for July 26th - 29th. Snohomish County Emergency Management has a resource page available here: snoco.org/cooling. There are 30 cooling centers across the county and the webpage can help direct people to the nearest one.
Extreme heat events tend to impact people of color, low-income, people with disabilities, and older ages the most because fewer of these households have air-conditioners and may lack transportation options to get to a place with A/C. Unfortunately, a disparate percentage of these same people also have underlying health conditions that are exacerbated by heat. Our rural communities in Snohomish County are also more inland, which are going to be much hotter over the next few days than our coastal urban areas.
County Comprehensive Plan Pop-Up Events
Snohomish County Comprehensive Plan is a document that guides County decisions on a wide range of topics and services over a 20-year time period. As the Plan acts as the blueprints for development in the county, updates made in 2024 will impact housing, businesses, neighborhoods, traffic, and the environment. The County is required by state law to update the Plan in 2024 to plan for the forecasted growth in population and employment. We also want the Plan to reflect the vision and priorities of the County’s communities and residents.
One of the overarching goals for public participation for the 2024 Comprehensive Plan Update is to engage with historically underserved communities. One way the County seeks to actively engage with a broader population is by physically getting out into the community. Throughout the month of July, County staff will be setting up pop-up tables to answer your questions, listen to your ideas, and raise awareness of the 2024 Update. We will be visiting parks, libraries, and businesses across the county. If you’d like to host a pop-up event at your business or community organization, please email 2024Update@snoco.org. More information on upcoming events can be found on this calendar.

Snohomish County is seeking public input on possible uses for the $7.2million in HOME Investment Partnership Program funds from the American Rescue Plan (HOME-ARP). HOME-ARP provides funding to assist individuals or households who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, and other vulnerable populations, by providing housing, rental assistance, supportive services, and non-congregate shelter, with the goal of reducing homelessness and increasing housing stability. These funds must be spent by September 30, 2030.
Please help by completing this Survey to identify the best use of HOME-ARP funds to address eligible needs within our community. The survey will be open until August 5, 2022.
The Dept. of Public Works advises motorists in the Lynnwood area that the closure on 20th Ave W, between Ash Way and 170th St. SW will be extended through August 31st. Full road closure is between the hours of 7am – 5pm. Emergency vehicles and school district transportation will have access at all times. Questions regarding this project may be directed to Snohomish County Public Works, at (425) 388-6453 or search for “Roads Central” online at www.snoco.org.
The Snohomish County Health District is working with partners to expand the availability of at-home COVID test kits, but there a few resources out there that are available to the public right now.
- Order up to 5 free tests per household via the WA State Department of Health
- Order 4 free tests per residential household via the U.S. Postal Service.
- Tests may be in limited supply, but are available to purchase at pharmacies, drug stores and some big box stores.
To report any positive results from an at-home test kit, people can use the WANotify App or contact the Department of Health Covid-19 hotline at 1-800-525-0127. The Snohomish Health District has recently created a video that helps employers understand what to do if they receive notice of a positive COVID-19 case from an employee.
Go to the Health District website to learn more or to watch the video.
