Youth Sports Officials

On Wednesday the Snohomish County Council passed a resolution recognizing the urgent need for youth sports officials in Snohomish County, as well as calling for all parents, coaches, and athletes to display sportsmanship both on and off the field.

I brought this resolution forward because clearly this is an issue people need to know about. I hope by bringing awareness to the critical role officials play in youth sports, other counties around the state will join Snohomish County in helping recruit people to this worthwhile profession and call upon the public to work together to show our youth what good sportsmanship should look like.

I’d like to give a special thank you to all the officials who came out to speak to this resolution.

Lake Roesiger Public Hearing October 26th

Lake Roesiger Public Hearing Flyer

In 2021, the Lake Roesiger community and Snohomish County developed a plan to prevent and reduce harmful invasive plants at Lake Roesiger, including Eurasian watermilfoil, fragrant waterlily, slender arrowhead, yellow flag iris, purple loosestrife and knotweed. The plan was approved by 70% of lake area residents in an online survey.

Volunteers from the Lake Roesiger Community and Boat Club developed a proposal to fund the plan and the preferred funding method was a surface water service charge, of which funds would solely be used on Lake Roesiger. A mailer was sent out notifying impacted parcel owners of the funding proposal and inviting them to a meeting on August 25th to determine community support for moving forward with the funding proposal. Snohomish County Council has also set a time and date for a public hearing on October 26th at 10:30am.  I encourage community members to reach out and share their comments or concerns with the council at contact.council@snoco.org before October 26th..  Public comment can also be provided during the public hearing in person or via Zoom.  Information regarding the Zoom link and the ordinance is listed below.

Public Hearing:

Wednesday, October 26th at 10:30 a.m.

Jackson Board Room, Snohomish County Campus or on Zoom

WSDOT Update

US 2 open to traffic following a second closure due to Bolt Creek Fire

SKYKOMISH– The Washington State Department of Transportation in partnership with the Bolt Creek Fire Incident Command has re-opened US 2 between the Money Creek Tunnel and the ranger station located between mileposts 46 to 50, effective at 7 p.m. This is the second time crews have been able to re-open the roadway after fire activity forced closures on Sept. 10 and Sept. 26.

The Bolt Creek Fire remains an active and evolving situation and additional closures are possible should the fire pattern shift . At this time, travelers in this area should expect a reduced speed limit of 30 miles per hour as crews continue their work.

WSDOT will perform a daily post-fire corridor inspection along this stretch of US 2 through the winter as they continue to monitor this area for damage during the rainy and wet season when the soil may become saturated and additional trees may need to be removed.

SR 9 and S. Lake Stevens Road Roundabout

  • Extended full closure - Sept. 29 through Oct. 3
  • Please note: This closure will now begin at 9 a.m. Sept. 29 due to limited availability of concrete. Area concrete plants are only operating weekdays, with no concrete deliveries available during evenings or weekends.
  • Beginning at 9 a.m. Sept. 29 until 4 a.m. Oct. 3, drivers should plan for an extended full weekend closure of SR 9 at S. Lake Stevens Road. Contractor crews will complete the installation of the roundabout at the intersection during this time. an earlier start time.
  • SR 9 will be closed between 20th Street SE and 32nd Street SE during this extended full closure with limited local access to residences and businesses. South Lake Stevens Road will remain closed at SR 9 until Oct. 3rd at 4 a.m. while crews complete construction of the roundabout.

Detour routes

Detour Map of Lake Stevens Project
  • Travelers planning on passing through Lake Stevens using northbound or southbound SR 9 should detour via SR 204 and U.S. 2 (see above map). Drivers should follow signed detour routes. Local drivers will be able to access area businesses and residences located outside of the active construction zone. No local through traffic will be allowed.

SR 9/SR 204 project - N. Davies Road and Vernon Road Roundabout

  • Extended full closure - Sept. 29 through Oct. 4
  • Near the intersection of SR9 and SR 204, crews will close N Davies Road and Vernon Road for an extended full weekend closure starting at 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29 through 5:00 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4 to construct a roundabout at that intersection. Drivers and residents in the area will need to use signed detour routes on local roads. Since this intersection is not directly connected to SR 9 and SR 204, traffic impacts should be minimal.
