Congrats to EDC Procurement Department!

El Dorado County is one of 171 agencies in the United States to receive an award for Achievement in Excellence in Procurement!

What does that mean?  Glad you asked!  The award is based on scoring in 18 categories, including a formal procurement process, an internal and external survey process, performance measures and the continued pursuit of excellence to ensure that El Dorado County taxpayers are getting the best value for their dollars.

Kudos to our Procurement Team for earning this prestigious award!

Code Enforcement in EDC

ce

At the BOS meeting on October 11, the Board received a presentation on code enforcement activities and procedures and had a robust discussion on any changes the Board would like to make.

With 1267 open cases (as of June 30, 2022), code enforcement is a tremendous challenge.  Our staff's approach is always to ensure the health and safety of our community in a compassionate manner geared toward a successful resolution. The Board recognized there are a wide variety of circumstances, and our staff needs the tools to respond appropriately, not a one-size-fits-all solution.

It is impossible to capture the full discussion with the Board, but issues centered on what discretion staff has to determine applicable building codes, how to better engage the real estate market to ensure that buyers are fully informed about what they are buying (i.e. fully permitted structures or not), and what amnesty programs are available in other jurisdictions to deal with cases that warrant some flexibility.

In the end, the Board directed staff to explore concepts for amnesty programs and return to the BOS for suggestions on incorporating them into our ordinance as well as to make changes to our website and complaint form that allows for anonymous complaints to avoid disputes among neighbors to ensure the safety of our community.

Countywide Community Health Needs Assessment

4

On October 11, the BOS received a presentation on the top 12 health issues facing El Dorado County with the goal of conducting a root-cause analysis while identifying gaps in services to help inform resources and practices to better meet the health needs of our communities.

I encourage you to review the Public Health presentation which talks about their community-driven prioritization process which revealed that the Top 4 Concerns in El Dorado County are Mental Health, Substance Use/Drug Overdose, Child Health and Obesity/Overweight.  These top concerns are not a news flash...especially the concerns over mental health, substance abuse and the health and well-being of our children.

Looking forward to the rest of the Health Needs Assessment process so we can continue to tackle these issues head on.

Small Water System Drought Planning

DC

The ongoing drought has already affected many residents of El Dorado County. The County of El Dorado and El Dorado Water Agency would like to help domestic well owners navigate persistent drought-related challenges but must first identify any risks and concerns that need to be addressed.

By filling out this short survey, you will help the County of El Dorado and El Dorado Water Agency better understand how droughts and water shortages have (or have not) impacted your domestic well. Even if you have not experienced disruptions to supply, we are still interested in ways that local agencies may be able to better prepare your supply for future drought-related risks. The information that you provide here will be used to inform a County Drought and Water Shortage Plan (required by Senate Bill 552) that will address the diverse range of risks that domestic well users in El Dorado County face.

Out & About...

Women's Fund

WF1

The Women's Fund celebrated their Million Dollar Milestone, giving over $1M in 15 years to help fund a wide variety of projects, non-profits and initiatives in El Dorado County!

With deep appreciation to Founder Katy Peek for her inspired vision to bring this model to El Dorado County, to the founding members that jumped in with both feet and to Bill Roby and the El Dorado Community Foundation for giving the Women's Fund a home.

With over 400 women paying dues of either $200 or $1000 per year, it shows there is great power in collective giving.  Thank you to John Sanders and crew for the incredible dinner as well as David Girard Winery for the gorgeous location.

Walk To School Day with Sierra

WTS1

The Team Sierra Moms hit it out of the park at this year's Walk To School Day...so much fun!

It was a great chance for our kids to connect with our local heroes (law enforcement and fire fighters) while promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Fun morning!

VOA Walk-Thru

JH

The Volunteers of America did a walk-through of the old Juvenile Hall to assess what will need to be done to open the Temporary Navigation Center / Emergency Shelter.

While we do not have a firm timeline, the good news is that the assessment went well, and this project is moving along nicely.

Stay tuned!...
