What to Know!

National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) will take place November 14 - 20, 2022. NAW is a nationwide celebration where industry, labor, equity, workforce, education, and government leaders host events to showcase the successes and value of Registered Apprenticeship for re-building our economy, advancing racial and gender equity, and supporting underserved communities.  Apprenticeships provide affordable pathways to high-paying jobs and careers without the typical student debt associated with college. 94% of apprentices who complete an apprenticeship retain employment, with an average annual salary of $70,000

Veterans Corner:

The 8th Annual Maine Hire-A-Vet Campaign for 2022 past the halfway point. Events during the campaign are OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!

Maine Veterans’ Homes board of trustees announced that Sharon Fusco will lead Maine Veterans’ Homes as chief executive officer effective Dec. 5.Fusco most recently led Redwood in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky, which specializes in providing therapeutic, educational and vocational services to persons of all ages with disabilities. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration, with a specialty in economics from Auburn University and a Master of Human Relations degree from the University of Oklahoma, specializing in organizational development and change management.

CareerCorner: November feature:

Educator- There are more than 150 different endorsements for Administrators, Education Specialists, Teachers, and CTE Teachers each with its own requirements.  The first step is a high school diploma followed by a bachelors degree.  The next step is to complete coursework specific to the age level being taught. Following a background check an educator starts out with a provisional license until 2 years of teaching is reached.  An educator can then apply for a professional license that’s valid for 5 years before renewal.  An educator will take the Praxis I and II.  You must then apply for a teacher’s license with the State of Maine.

Training Talk!

The Center for Workforce and Professional Development at CMCC has a new state-of-the-art welding lab at CMCC.  The lab features 20 welding stations capable of both MIG and TIG welding and was funded by the Harold Alfond Center for the Advancement of Maine’s Workforce and Maine Jobs and Recovery Plan.  The lab is home to the Welding Academy, which provides free training to learners looking to learn a new trade in a high-demand field.
