As we approach this Thanksgiving holiday, Karen and I send our best wishes that as you gather with family and friends, your hearts and homes may be full...full of good food, good cheer and gratitude for the joys and blessings at hand.

As always, we remain grateful for the privilege of representing you at the county level.  It is an honor we do not take lightly, and our door is always open to you.  Happy Thanksgiving.

The BOS Welcomes the Youth Commission

YC2

Shadow Day by the El Dorado County Youth Commission is always a highlight of our year.  On November 8, the students joined the Board on the dais and participated in discussions on economic development in our county as well as hearing a report by the Human Rights Commission and celebrating the advocacy of Sierra Wildlife Rescue Volunteer, Dave Cook.

The Youth Commission was formed in 2004 as an advisory committee to the BOS on issues relative to children and youth.  Members are appointed by the BOS working in conjunction with the El Dorado County Office of Education who supports the Commission with an Advisor.  Every year, we are notably impressed by the quality and diligence of these Youth Commissioners who come from a variety of high schools in our county.  They are passionate about El Dorado County and dedicated to identifying and serving the unmet needs of their peers.

We look forward to another great year together!

New Economic Development Incentive in EDC

Reneta

Reneta Jenik, Founder and CEO of MyFoodom.com is a part of the Growth Factory Incubator Program that is helping to grow and support start-ups and expanding businesses in the greater Sacramento region.

Growing our economy in ways that work for El Dorado County has long been a topic of conversation. On November 8, the BOS made some tangible progress in being proactive, rather than reactive, to growing our local economy as the BOS gave conceptual approval for a Accelerator and Incubator Incentive Program.

This program would include a one-time commitment of up to $500,000 of Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) funds to support small businesses or entrepreneurs that have been accepted into a cohort of an approved incubator or accelerator located in the Greater Sacramento area. A large portion of these funds will be used to provide technical assistance, support, training, and access to funding to an El Dorado County-based business with the requirement that they remain in the County for at least three (3) years. Each eligible business will be entitled to
an amount of up to $50,000.

Staff will be bringing back a revision to our J-7 and J-9 Policy for final adoption soon.  Look forward to growing our local businesses!

Thank You John and Marian!

JC
MW

It is with a heavy heart, and much gratitude, that I say goodbye to John Clerici and Marian Washburn as District 3 Commissioners.

As a Planning Commissioner, John was a diligent and conscientious steward of District 3 and the County as a whole.  I have always valued John's expertise in land use, planning and transportation as well as his ability to bring a balanced perspective to issues.  He knows who we are as a rural county while also understanding the practical realities of ensuring a vibrant economy.  He will be greatly missed, although I am happy that he will be representing the City again on the Placerville City Council.

Congrats John!

As a member of the Commission on Aging, Marian brought a wealth of knowledge.  I have always been impressed with Marian's inspired approach to community building as well as her passion for ensuring the needs of all the residents in El Dorado County are met.  Her experience in local government has always been a support to me and has provided a strong framework for her community advocacy.  Beyond that, her regular reports to me were unparalleled in keeping me up to speed with what the COA was working on!

I wish Marian and John all the best and extend my deepest gratitude for their service to Dist. 3.

If you are a District 3 resident and wish to serve on the Planning Commission or the Commission on Aging, the links to the application are below.  Thank you for your consideration:

Fall Countywide Plenary for Water

Plenary

Just what is a "Plenary", you ask?  It is a meeting that is attended by a broad spectrum of qualified participants.

Supervisor Parlin and I participated as members of the El Dorado Water Agency and as members of the BOS.  This year's theme was Building Community Resilience as we explored 1) Focusing on agriculture in terms of resiliency planning for water and watersheds, and 2) Post-Calfor Fire Recovery for Community Resilience.

We also heard from the Chair of the State Water Resources Board who spoke about the need to make big investments in water recovery and get the voice of those in the valley to strengthen our conversations and advocacy back in D.C.  We need to get Californians to recognize and care where their water comes from (it's HERE!), get away from the "magic of the tap" and support investments in securing additional water in the headlands.

Great day.  There is much work to be done!
