Xmas 2

Dear District 3 residents,

As we continue to await the birth of a new baby in our family, the Christmas season and its promise of hope, redemption, peace and love is foremost in my mind.  As I turn my thoughts to our county, I see that division and strife still try to threaten, and yet I continue to value that we are connected by a mutual love of this place we call home.  It binds and unifies us.  As we wrestle with challenging issues at a local level, our mutual connection inspires me to look beyond the noise and politics to find the balance and common ground that honors both who we are and where we need to go for a prosperous future.

Karen and I consider it a privilege to serve you.  As you gather with family and friends, may your connections be blessed and may you find peace in life's simpler joys.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and your family!

Meet & Greet with Asm. Megan Dahle

MD

It was a privilege to meet with First District Assemblywoman Megan Dahle and her staff on December 8th.  We had a robust discussion with her and our Department Heads covering issues such as broadband, housing, economic growth, agriculture, rural needs, wildfire and even the State's onerous organics waste policy.

I walked away from our meeting with the confidence that we will be able to work effectively together, bringing the voice of rural California to the policy making table in Sacramento.  #raisingruralvoices.

CAL FIRE Public Hearing

WFM

CAL FIRE has just prepared draft updates to their Fire Hazard Severity Zone maps.  The purpose of these maps is to inform local governments of the wildfire hazards in their jurisdictions for land use planning purposes.

How it will affect you is AB38 which states that after July 1, 2021 when you sell property that is located in a high or very high fire hazard severity zone, you’ll need documentation of a compliant Defensible Space Inspection. (See link below)

There will be a public comment period on the maps, as well as a PUBLIC HEARING on DECEMBER 16th, at 9:00 a.m. at the El Dorado Hills Fire Station 85.

The County's Office of Wildfire Preparedness and Resilience has been in contact with CAL FIRE and is coordinating the County's response.  For more information, see the CAL FIRE website linked below.

Festival of Lights

f

Thank you to Bayside Church for leading the charge of pulling together the Faith Community, Business Leaders and Community Volunteers to host the Festival of Lights in Placerville.

While there will always be diverse opinions about what a celebration should entail, I so appreciate that Bayside Church stepped up to the plate when there was no entity to coordinate this important tradition.

Since that time, they have expanded the offerings and ramped up the service to our community, even providing meals for all the merchants that day so they can be in their businesses, making money and serving their customers!

The holiday season is in full swing in downtown Placerville and throughout El Dorado County.

Please remember to shop locally as it truly matters!

Thank you Planning Commissioner John Clerici

jc

December 8th marked the last meeting for Commissioner Clerici.

John, you will be greatly missed on the Planning Commission as I have always valued our ability to debate issues (even ones we disagree on) and apply critical thought and creative solutions to an effective resolution.  We have always made a good team, and while I am sad for District 3, I am happy that the City of Placerville has you back as a Councilmember.

Thank you for faithfully serving in this capacity for the past two years!

The joy of brightening other lives,

bearing each other's burdens,

easing each other's loads and

supplanting empty hearts and lives with generous gifts

becomes for us

the magic of the holidays.
