Public comment sought on Kentucky’s Stronger Connections initial data submission

(FRANKFORT, KY) – Public comment is being sought on a request by the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) for its initial data submission for the Stronger Connection grant.

The Stronger Connections Grant Program is part of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. Kentucky received $15 million to distribute to school districts through a competitive grant process.

In the initial data submission, KDE is required to establish a definition of a high-need school district, describe its public comment procedures, identify any prohibited expenditures and outline its competitive grantmaking process. KDE is seeking feedback from the community on these items in order to strengthen the grantmaking process.

The full request for the waiver can be accessed on KDE’s website.

Public comments must be received by 5 p.m. ET on Dec. 19, 2022.

Comments may be emailed to kdecommunications@education.ky.gov or submitted to Todd Allen, General Counsel, Kentucky Department of Education, 300 Sower Blvd, 5th Floor, Frankfort, KY 40601. Comments also may be submitted via fax at (502) 564-9321. All comments that are received during the window will be considered before submission of the waiver request to the U.S. Department of Education.
