Upcoming Franconia District Strategic Plan Community Forum

Dear Franconia District Families,

Please join me and Superintendent Reid for the Franconia District Strategic Planning Community Forum. The event will be held on Monday, February 6 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Edison High School in the cafeteria. There will be virtual events available, as well, if you are unable to attend this forum.

This will be an opportunity to learn more, as well as provide your input for the FCPS Strategic Plan. The success of our strategic plan depends on our whole community being involved, so I encourage every parent and caregiver, student, employee, and community member to participate in this important work and help shape our future. The Strategic Plan brings focus to our work and ensures we are doing the right things at the right time to best serve our students.

Please see more details below about these community meetings and how to register. I hope to see you there.

Regards,
Tammy

FCPS is seeking input from families, students, teachers, staff, and community partners and organizations to develop a new Strategic Plan, which will establish our school district’s goals and focus our efforts on how to get there.

The easiest way to participate in and contribute to the direction of the FCPS’ Strategic Plan is to attend a Community Forum, being held in-person in each of the nine magisterial districts and several virtual meetings, too.

I invite you to join me and Dr. Reid for the Franconia District Community Forum on Monday, February 6 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Edison High School (5801 Franconia Rd. Alexandria, VA 22310). The meeting will be held in the Cafeteria.

Please register for this event using this Google Form.

When you register, please indicate if any language interpretation services are needed. Child care will also be provided at this event.

If you can’t join me on February 6, please check out the schedule of Community Forums, including several virtual options, and register for one that is most convenient for you.

These Community Forums will provide every resident an opportunity to participate in and influence the direction of FCPS’ Strategic Plan, prior to its completion and formal adoption by the School Board. The goal is to have the final strategic plan by June 2023.

Hear more from Superintendent Reid as she explains the Strategic Plan process and its importance.

What Happens at a Community Forum?

  • Community Forums will provide families, students, staff, and community members with an opportunity to review student achievement, access, and perception data, and identify both strengths and challenges within the data.
  • Working in small groups, participants will use research-based goals as a framework to transition their observations into recommended goals for the strategic plan that are focused on our desired future state for students.
  • As a culminating activity, participants will identify the one guarantee they would like FCPS to make regarding our students’ education.
  • The data from the Community Forums will be synthesized and that information will be shared with the Core Planning Team to incorporate those recommendations into finalized strategic plan goals.

What Can I Do to Prepare?

It's not necessary to do anything in advance. We want to you bring your thoughts and experiences to the discussion.

If you'd like to review in advance, the data reports that will be shared at the Community Forums are available on the Strategic Planning website.
