Flooding Activity Leads to Supreme Fishing Conditions
2016 looks to rival the best years on record for anglers seeking redbreast sunfish and bluegill thanks to optimal river conditions, so start stocking up on crickets now!
Past research has shown that redbreast sunfish grow extremely fast whenever the
river is out in the floodplain, so expect some of the biggest river
bluegill and redbreast seen in years on the Satilla and other south Georgia rivers.
Fishing
tips for panfish include pitching crickets
suspended underneath a small float around shoreline cover. Anglers that
can make pinpoint accurate casts can sling artificial lures into shady haunts
to pull out some true “rooster” redbreasts. Some of the more effective artificial
lures for these species include small spinnerbaits with rubber band skirts or
small plastic beetle bodies, in-line spinners, and popping bugs.
Did you know that when you purchase a fishing license and related equipment that you help fund sport fish restoration programs? Funds from the Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration Acts help state wildlife agencies do the conservation work needed to make hunting and fishing activities the best they can be in the state.
