Every Day Counts Round 6 (EDC-6) began in January 2021 and UHPC for Bridge Preservation and Repair (P&R) was one of the seven innovations being deployed. The purpose of EDC-6 deployment is to promote and facilitate the use of UHPC by bridge owners to strengthen, repair, and preserve existing bridges. While EDC-6 formally ended at the conclusion of December 2022, we continue to provide updates on this topic.

Researchers at the Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center, published a FHWA Technical Note in November 2022 entitled Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) Overlays: An Example of Lifecycle Cost Analysis (FHWA-HRT-23-012).

The Technical Note presents a summary of a life-cycle cost analysis study that was performed by a signature bridge owner to evaluate different overlay options for one of their bridges. One of the overlay types was UHPC.
