Two SE Michigan Secretary of State offices offer innovative time-saving technology

MI-TIME Line

Don’t want to wait in person? MI-TIME Line allows customers to get in line online or by phone

Two more southeast Michigan Secretary of State offices now are allowing you to reserve a spot in line via the Internet or by phone, saving you time.

Secretary of State Ruth Johnson celebrated the launch of the get-in-line-online service called MI-TIME Line at the North Oakland County PLUS Office in Clarkston today. The service is expanding to a total of 18 offices around the state by September’s end. The customer service technology allows you to schedule appointments and get in line from a home computer, with a phone call or via text message.

The latest offices to offer MI-TIME Line are:

  • The North Oakland County PLUS office, 7090 Sashabaw Road in Clarkston, and
  • The West Wayne County PLUS office, 8565 N. Lilley Road in Canton.

When you check in with MI-TIME Line, you’ll get calls or text updates on when your turn is coming up — meaning you don’t have to wait in the office.

“MI-TIME Line has revolutionized the waiting experience for Secretary of State customers,” Johnson said. “Get in line online and then do what you want to do. We’ll contact you when it’s almost your turn at the counter.”

To get in line at the Clarkston office from anywhere, customers may call 248-507-4559 or text “clarkston” to 567-335-0262.

To get in line at the Canton office from anywhere, customers may call 734-864-4824 or text “canton” to 561-693-6797.

Seven other southeast Michigan Secretary of State offices started offering the service in 2014. For their locations, go to the Branch Office Locator and search for “Get in Line Online” offices. The Secretary of State’s website at www.michigan.gov/sos also has links to the participating offices.

The Secretary of State’s Office partnered with United States-based QLess, whose line-management service is used by amusement parks, shopping malls, health care and educational facilities to reduce wait times.

MI-TIME Line is the latest in Johnson’s efforts to improve customer service. In 2011, she launched ExpressSOS.com to offer some of the department’s most popular services online. As part of ExpressSOS.com, customers can use the special Print-and-Go service that allows customers to print off a proof of purchase for tabs to carry until their tabs arrive in the mail.
