What is a Recall?
Recalls are the removal of foods, animal feed, pet food, and produce from the market. It is important for consumers to be aware of recalls because recalled foods may cause injury or illness.
WSDA helps ensure that products in Washington state are produced and sold in a safe manner. If a human or animal food product may be harmful, WSDA will recommend that a food producer recall the product.
Once product has been scheduled for a recall. The work to remove the product from the market is monitored to ensure that all the harmful or potentially harmful product are removed from sale and consumers are aware of the health hazard.
For FDA and USDA-FSIS jurisdiction, these following agencies monitor the recall activity.
WSDA will coordinate with the FDA to monitor recalls since both agencies are partners in the Food and Feed Emergency Rapid Response | WSDA.

WSDA monitors recalls conducted by WSDA-licensed or WSDA-registered operations. WSDA will post a company's recall information on this website if WSDA is the lead agency monitoring the recall. WSDA also posts health alerts and Recalls that have broad distribution.
