What we've done

We’ve launched Promise NYC, a new program providing access to child care services for undocumented children and their families. We’re partnering with community-based organizations to connect these families to these new services.

Promise NYC will help families who previously didn’t qualify for other state or federal programs due to their immigration status. In addition, the program will help newly arrived asylum seekers.

Fast facts

  • Promise NYC launches in January 2023
  • This is a first-of-its-kind program ensuring no child is left behind
  • More than 600 children will benefit from Promise NYC over the next six months
  • The $10 million investment in Promise NYC is part of our Blueprint for Child Care & Early Childhood Education released in 2022
  • Why it matters

One of the biggest obstacles for families can often be access to child care, with many parents having to sacrifice jobs because of the lack of care for their children. Promise NYC steps in to help more New Yorkers – undocumented families and asylum seekers – who want to have good paying jobs and make sure their children are cared for safely.

We are making this a fairer city for all families regardless of immigration status. This program will go a long way at ensuring these New Yorkers have opportunities for brighter futures.
