Easton Man Charged with Arson to Own Vehicle
Talbot County, July 16, 2018, Deputy State Fire Marshals served an arrest warrant on Kartiece Simmons (36) for intentionally setting fire to his 2011 Chevy Malibu. Deputy State Fire Marshals arrested Simmons at the Dorchester General Hospital Friday evening and transported him back to Talbot county. The fire occurred on June 20, 2018 at 5:26 AM at his residence located at 31 Lynbrook Court in Easton. The blaze destroyed his 2011 Malibu and caused significant heat damage to a nearby 2010 Toyota Camry owned by Shenetta Conyer. The estimated total loss of both vehicles is $8,000.00. The Easton Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire with 10 firefighters and were able to contain the blaze within 10 minutes. There were no injuries as a result of the ARSON fire.
Simmons confessed to Deputy State Fire Marshals that he intentionally set fire to his car by using matches and combustible materials inside of his car due to having a fascination with fire. He was charged with Arson 2nd Degree, Malicious Burning 1st Degree, Malicious Destruction of Property over $1,000.00 and Reckless Endangerment. Simmons was held at the Talbot County Detention Center on a $7,500.00 bond after his arrest.
If convicted of all charges, he faces a maximum penalty of $42,500.00 in fines and/or 33 years imprisonment.
