If you still want to stay close to your child, have your infant sleep in his/her crib or on a separate sleep surface that is appropriate for your child in your room. There are a number of resources where cribs can be accessed for families in need:

Crib Safety:

Never sleep with your baby. If your baby falls asleep in your arms, enjoy the sleeping baby and stay awake! If you become sleepy, place the baby in his/her crib or some other safe, firm sleeping surface on their back. Remember when putting you baby down, the following items can suffocate your baby: 
  • Couches
  • Clothes
  • Blankets
  • Soft beds
  • Pillows
  • Toys
