Details

The Nicaragua (Sanctions) (EU Exit) Regulations 2020 ensure sanctions for Nicaragua are implemented effectively after the UK leaves the EU.

Context

The Nicaragua (Sanctions) (EU Exit) Regulations 2020 put in place sanctions measures to encourage the government of Nicaragua to:

  • respect democratic principles and institutions, the separation of powers and the rule of law in Nicaragua

  • refrain from actions, policies and activities which repress civil society in Nicaragua

  • comply with international human rights law and to respect human rights
