Overview

Description

The Sexual Assault Kit Testing Grant Program will provide up to $3,500,000 in grant funding to the Maryland State Police and local law enforcement agencies to pay for the testing of sexual assault evidence collection kits (SAKs) by forensic laboratories.

Requests that support in-house personnel and supplies for testing or the outsourcing of testing should be based on the current number of eligible, untested kits plus the annual average number of kits collected by the applicant agency. Applicants with an in-house forensic laboratory may request additional funds to purchase or upgrade equipment required to complete the testing of kits.

Important note: funding is limited to the testing of sexual assault kits collected since May 1, 2018.

History
