The Commissioner’s Review Office provides superior customer service to support workers in times of unemployment by issuing final legal Decisions of Commissioner in unemployment-insurance benefits and tax cases.

We have a great opportunity for a full-time/non-permanent Legal Assistant 3 to join the team!

Duties

As the Legal Assistant 3, you will be essential in supporting this mission by completing timely and accurate preparation of dockets, Petitions for Review, and finalized drafts of Decisions of Commissioner and Orders. Attention to detail will be critical as you evaluate orders, review case files, and conduct legal editing to ensure that all decisions are prepared for final review. You will identify issues regarding case status, jurisdiction, basis for appeal, legal authority and procedure. In addition, you will perform legal citation checks with electronic law search.

  • Finalize Commissioner decisions/orders.
  • Docket Management  and Correspondence.
  • Perform entry level paralegal duties.
  • Enter case information into CRO database.
  • Answer CRO zero-out/main phone line.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent AND four (4) years of experience in legal environment in support of an attorney, administrative law judge(s), industrial insurance appeals judge(s), review judge(s) or equivalent.
OR
One (1) year as a Legal Assistant 2.
OR
A two-year degree in Legal Secretary Studies, Paralegal Studies or related field of study plus two years of legal office experience. *
OR 
A combination of five years of college education and/or relevant experience.
OR
A combination of education and/or relevant experience.

*A Bachelor’s degree may substitute for the Legal Secretary or Paralegal degree.

Note: Candidates may be required to demonstrate skills in keyboarding, filing, proofreading, grammar, spelling and use of office equipment through agency specific skills testing.

Insurance Benefits

Retirement and Deferred Compensation
 
State Employees are members of the Washington Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).  New employees have the option of two employer contributed retirement programs.  For additional information, check out the Department of Retirement Systems' web site.
 
Employees also have the ability to participate in the Deferred Compensation Program (DCP).  This is a supplemental retirement savings program (similar to an IRA) that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.
 
Vacation (Annual Leave)
 
You begin accruing vacation starting your first month of employment. Since we value your loyalty, the amount of vacation you can accrue increases the longer you work with us. Washington State supports members of the armed forces with 21 days paid military leave per year. Vacation accrues for full-time employees per WAC 357-31-165.
