Helping
Immigrants
Become
New American Citizens
The District of Columbia Government is dedicated to making citizenship services more readily available to District employees, contractors and their families.  In partnership with the National Immigration Forum's New American Workforce, the DC Government will provide this portal to support them through their naturalization process.  Citizens are better positioned to support their families and have a positive impact in their communities.

In addition to offering this portal, the DC government is also offering financial assistance to eligible DC residents.  If you are a DC resident, the DC Mayor's Fund will cover up to $725 per person for filing fee and $100 of legal fees.  If you are not a DC Resident, you are responsible for paying by check the $725 filing fee to the US Department of Homeland Security and the $100 legal fee to the International Rescue Committee (IRC).

Please watch the information session video below before beginning your application.  It provides an overview of the citizenship process, explains eligibility requirements and discusses the benefits of citizenship.

"Really simple and straightforward - it was really helpful to have the Mayor's Fund and these New American Workforce workshops; it fell into place at the right time for me.  As a citizen, I am glad that I can now participate in government and policy decisions that affect me everyday."
-Raka
Washington, DC Resident & Employee
"I decided to apply for citizenship this past year because I was coming up on 20 years living in the US.  Now my life is here; I have a husband and a family.  There are always opportunities and given my work, time, kids and family, it just made sense to take the next step to citizenship.  Additionally, given the political turmoil and changes in immigration policy, it helped spur that step into action to make sure we felt safe as a family in this country."
-Ambica
Washington, DC Resident
"Together, we’re giving more immigrants in our community a fair shot at citizenship. This grant builds on the work we have done through our Immigrant Justice Legal Services grant program and through the monthly citizenship workshops; it’s an example of how we can work together as a community and use local resources to break down barriers to citizenship."
