Summary

Public Health – Seattle & King County and the Design and Civic Engagement Group of King County Information Technology (KCIT) are seeking a Web Content Specialist (Website Developer - Journey) to develop and maintain key county web sites for our COVID-19 response. This work will help provide critical information about King County’s response about the pandemic.

Reporting to Public Health – Seattle & King County and serving jointly on Public Health’s Communications Team and KCIT’s Design and Civic Engagement Services unit, the Web Content Specialist will be responsible for supporting Public Health’s day-to-day web and content management system.

The ideal candidate will excel at working independently and collaboratively with Public Health staff and Design and Civic Engagement Team members in managing and supporting content and web development, aligning quality control and accessibility standards with current design and web infrastructure standards. You will be a key member of the Design and Civic Engagement team in supporting the county’s content management system (SiteCore). You will become proficient in utilizing the Design and Civic Engagement content platforms, programming technologies and analytical tools in working with Public Health customers.

As a Web Content Specialist you will need to be highly organized and an excellent listener as you develop strong working relationships with your customers. When working on business initiatives, you will be responsible for evaluating customer requirements leading and coordinating content schedules and managing multiple requests to keep pace with business demands. This position will be working on multiple tasks and initiatives concurrently. You will be required to utilize your business and personal acumen to meet challenges and deadlines while continuing to achieve high customer satisfaction. Experience in the public sector is desirable but not necessary.

Work Schedule: These is a 100% FTE position (40 hours a week) through 3/31/21. This position may be extended, contingent on funding. The people selected for these positions will be required to work 5 days a week, on a negotiated schedule. This position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not overtime eligible.

Job Duties

Primarily responsible for content modifications, additions, deletions and implementing approved digital enhancements within the county’s content management systems for agency customer’s websites. (This is not a writing position). Continually monitor agency websites in a proactive manner and develop analytical and maintenance reports and make corrections to ensure page is error free, has current information and meets web accessibility standards.

Provides innovative, customer centric, information and analytical based recommendations which help to enhance the agency’s websites.

Manage and utilize best practices relating to Design and Civic Engagement and Communication initiatives at King County, identifying opportunities as they arise for your customers to improve resident and employee collaboration and expand government transparency.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

  • Minimum 2 years experience working in web content management
  • Demonstrated experience with a Web content management system (e.g. Sitecore, Wordpress, Drupal, Joomla).
  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency in the following development tools: HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, Twitter Bootstrap, jQuery.
  • Strong technical skills including ability to read, edit, validate, and fix code issues in HTML, CSS.
  • Ability to read and use analytics and maintenance reports.
  • Attention to accuracy and detail, to ensure a high quality of Web site content.
  • Strong problem-solving skills. Strong listening skills.
  • Ability to manage time and workload effectively which includes planning, organizing, and prioritizing multiple projects for more than one customer.   
  • Oral and written communications skills to include the ability to: make presentations, develop and maintain effective working relationships with peers, subordinates, and present solutions with clarity and precision.
  • Ability to identify resources in solving problems that span multiple organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop effective work processes and procedures to realize greater accountability and efficiency.
  • Business knowledge, innovative thinking, and sound judgment in the solution of problems or the pursuit of business opportunities.

Desired Skills and Experience:
  • Two years' experience developing and supporting SiteCore CMS development platform
  • Experience working with SharePoint sites.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite.
  • Experience using Google Analytics and other web reporting tools.
  • Public Sector and/or Non-Profit development including content management experience.

Necessary Special Requirements

Work Location: 
Chinook Building located at 401 5th Avenue, WA 98104  Must be able to travel to sites periodically to meet with clinical teams. Some weekends and evening work required, and some travel may be required.  Staff will work part in the office (for initial orientation and training) and part remotely (telecommute). This position participates in the Section's response to outbreak investigations or other response activities.  
 
Temporary Telecommuting Requirement
Some of the work associated with this position will be performed remotely, at least through July 5, 2021 in compliance with King County’s telecommuting mandate.  Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.  Employees must reside in WA state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.  There will be situations where the employee is required to report to a County worksite.  Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required by the department in alignment with the Public Health Directive from the Seattle & King County Public Health Officer.
